Marvellous Moscow

YPS Meet | Sep 3 | Travel Photography

Even as the excitement from the World Photography Day Celebration and Exhibition was dying YPS announced the programs for September and also Portrait Workshop for October. The first YPS Meet for September was held in the YPS Hall on September 3rd with a slide show and talk on Travel Photography by Murali Santhanam, Director, YPS based on his trips to Russia. Despite a long weekend and the festival on Monday, around 35 enthusiasts attended the program.

From trips to Moscow

Mr. Murali Santhanam spoke for about 90 minutes showing his photographs taken in Moscow, St. Petersburg and Pereslavl Zalesky during his business trips to Moscow. He started the discussion with a description of his equipment used to make these photographs and explained his typical approaches to Cityscapes and Landscapes.

00-3-Approach

He spoke about his approaches to make technically sound photographs, techniques of composition applied in making photographs, post-processing techniques and the need to experiment. He also spoke about planning the shots by looking at images made by others and planning a visit to the place at the right time looking at the orientation and lighting conditions from Google.

He then took the audience through images taken at Red Square, Ukraina Hotel, Kolomenskoye, Cathedral of Christ, Victory Arch, Gum Market, Izmailsky Park and Tsaritsino Park in Moscow.  He also showed images taken from around the city and people. He also showed nice images from St. Petersburg.

The program was well received by the audience and many of them appreciated the efforts, exposure, composition and processing techniques used by Murali Santhanam.

Mr. Murali Santhanam has made the slides available for people who could not attend on Flickr Album – Moscow Slideshow.
