Karnataka Tourism Contest Result for City-scapes

The June 2017 Karnataka Tourism Photo Contest was held under the theme of “Karnataka City-scapes”.

We received 181 pictures from 68 participants. The panel of judges met on July 6th evening for judging at YPS office at the State Youth Centre along with YPS Executive Committee. Shri. Naveen Raj Singh, Pricipal Secretary to the Minister, Department of Tourism, Government of Karnataka, graced the occasion as observer. YPS’ online salon judging system was used to assign scores and to review and finalize award winning images.

Judges for the May 2017 Contest

Shri. Murali K Kumar, Special News Photographer, THE HINDU The effervescent Mr. Murali Kumar joined THE HINDU as Dark Room Assistant in 1997 and had steadily progressed to become Special News Photographer today. As a photojournalist, he has covered many historic events like ISRO Moon Mission, Mars Mission and Namma Metro. He also developed a photo story on Child Labour in Bellary Minning for Frontline. In addition, he had covered many sports events like Common Wealth Games in Delhi 2010, WTA Royal Indian Open 2012, Asian Athletics Championships in Pune 2013, Football Federation Cup in Goa 2015 and South Asian Games in Guwahati 2016. His hobbies are Travelling, Bird Watching, Wildlife Photography and Music.
Shri. A K Raju, AFIAP Mr. A K RAJU is presently the Chief Naturalist in charge of five resort properties belonging to the Little Earth Group in Ooty, Karwar and Chickmagalur. He is an acclaimed Wildlife Photographer and was proclaimed “Nature Photographer of the Year” by FIP in 1989. Since then he has awards to his credit. His works have won more than 400 acceptances. He was also very successful in product photography and has many major clients like Epson, 3M, HP, Oracle, Wipro and Titan.
Shri. Bhanu Prakash Chandra, Deputy Photo Editor, The Week
Bhanu Prakash Chandra is presently the Deputy Photo Editor at The Week magazine. His main focus in photo journalism is human-interest features and hard news stories like the stories from Iraq during the American troops pullout in 2011. Bhanu is a gold award winner at the prestigious 10th Asia Media Awards presented by the World Association of Newspapers and News Publishers (WAN) held in April 2011 at Bangkok. He won the award for his photographs from an adventurous bike journey in the Himalayas. He won a Gold Medal again in 2017 in the WAN-IFRA Asian Media Awards function held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. He was also chosen for T S Satyan memorial best magazine photographer award in 2011. Bhanu Prakash Chandra studied Bachelor of Fine Arts(BFA) in Photography and Photojournalism at Chamarajendra Academy of Visual Arts (CAVA) from University of Mysore, India. An avid motorcyclist and a non-stop traveller, Bhanu is a techno geek who embraces anything that’s new in technology.
