SUMMARY:Architecture Photography - Indian Heritage Monuments
DESCRIPTION:Presentation by:Mr Goutham Ramesh Architectural photography of Indian heritage monuments is more than just capturing structures—it is about preserving history\, culture and artistry through a lens. This presentation delves into the thought process behind photographing monuments\, focusing on research\, composition\, and storytelling. It explores how light influences the mood and details of an image\, how different perspectives—from grand vistas to intricate carvings—offer varied narratives\, and how tools like tilt-shift lenses help maintain architectural integrity. Through examples and techniques\, the session will illustrate how to approach heritage photography with creativity and precision ensuring every image resonates with the monument’s essence and timeless beauty \n\n\n\n\n\nAbout Goutham Ramesh Goutham Ramesh is a multifaceted individual with a deep passion for photography\, technology\, and cultural heritage. A skilled photographer\, Goutham specializes in capturing the essence of historical monuments\, natural landscapes\, and wildlife. His favorite equipment includes the Nikon Zf \, Nikon Zfc\, Nikon D750\, and lenses like the Nikon 24mm PCE tilt-shift\, 200-500mm VR\, and Laowa 100mm. His photography journeys have taken him to iconic locations like Hampi\, Lepakshi\, Darasuram\, and Thanjavur\, where he often seeks unique perspectives\, like reflections in rain puddles or intricate carvings on temple walls. Goutham’s talent has earned him numerous accolades\, including the PSA Gold Medal (Bosnia)\, GPU Gold Medal (Greece)\, and GIP Gold Medal (Germany). His photographs have been accepted for exhibitions in many countries\, showcasing his ability to capture moments that transcend cultural boundaries. Goutham is particularly drawn to India’s rich cultural heritage and classical art forms like Bharatanatyam. His work often includes detailed descriptions and stories of sculptures\, temples\, and traditional architecture. Notable captures include the Brihadeeswara Temple under dramatic lighting\, the intricate carvings of Hosaholalu\, and wildlife moments like blackbucks in their natural habitat. He credits much of his growth as a photographer to the mentorship of talented individuals like  V Nagraj\, who inspired him with his connection to the subject in macro photography\, and Satish H\, whose expertise in composition and storytelling shaped Goutham’s artistic vision. He also values the guidance of Late Murali Santhanam\, whose insights into light and intricate details have deeply influenced Goutham’s style. Professionally\, Goutham is the Director of Engineering at an IT company\, where he drives innovations in AI and Governance\, Risk\, and Compliance (GRC). He is also an advocate for hobby photographers\, challenging policies that limit their ability to document India’s heritage and showcasing the beauty of the country’s monuments through his lens. Inspired by his mentors and a thirst for discovery\, Goutham continually strives to master macro photography and document the intricate details of India’s architectural and natural wonders. Goutham’s love for travel and discovery is evident in his road trips to places like Hampi\, Lepakshi\, and Tamil Nadu’s temple towns\, where he combines his skills in photography with his deep appreciation for history and culture. As the slideshow progresses\, it delves into the stories behind the photographs\, highlighting the artist’s motivations and the significance of thinking outside the box. Welcome to the world of African Wildlife Photography! Presenter: Mr Gurcharan Roopra Gurcharan was born and raised in Nairobi\, Kenya. The serene environs of his native place left a lasting impact and he became attracted to nature at an early age. After graduating in automotive engineering\, Gurcharan lived and worked in the UK for ten years where he sorely missed the space and freedom of the bush. By 2012 he made up his mind and returned to Kenya for good. Return to the bush coincided with him developing an interest in photography. What started off as a hobby took deep roots in his mind and soon his life started revolving around wildlife and nature photography. Time and the bush were great mentors where he developed and honed his skills to become one of the most noted nature photographers in Africa.  The more time Gurcharan spent in nature\, the more passionate he has become towards Mother Earth and the many fellow beings on it. He is committed to the cause of a pristine earth and has devoted his time and energy to many conservation causes in Kenya. He is happy for the fact that his images have come useful for many conservation projects. One thing is for sure\, there are many more exciting things to come from this gifted photographer!  Fb: facebook.com/gurcharan.roopra/ Insta ‘@gurcharan Google Meet Link: https://meet.google.com/sgz-fpoo-mep?hs=224

SUMMARY:Understanding Lightroom Classic Architecture and Organizing Images
DESCRIPTION:YPS Saturday Meet | May 18\, Sat | 5:30 PM IST | Technical Talk | Google Meet\nLightroom was developed as a photographer-friendly software to complement Photoshop but became more popular than the latter with photographers due to its intuitive user interface and ease of use. It is a versatile multi-role software that covers several aspects of digital photography and is not limited to just post-processing. Plus it has a very powerful batch processing capability thus saving enormous time and effort for volume users.  \n \n However\, to use Lightroom one has to overcome a “catch” as it is based on a different type of architecture compared to most other image processing and even any general purpose software. This can make the use of Lightroom a bit tricky to start but once the concept is understood\, it will be smooth sailing thereafter with many benefits. \nOne more important point and the reason why Lightroom is not popular with some. Proper organization of the images is a must and without this\, usage of Lightroom will get messy very soon leading to frustration. In other words\, certain discipline has to be adhered to in the organization of your image storage\, to reap the benefits of Lightroom. \n The purpose of the talk is to deal with these issues and to bring clarity to the topics mentioned. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMr Ashok Kandimalla\nMr Ashok Kandimalla has been in the field of photography for more than three decades and has extensive experience in both film and digital photography. As an electronics and computer engineer (he holds a degree in electronics from IIT Madras)\, he has a unique and deep insight into digital photographic technology. \nAshok has a passion for sharing his knowledge through teaching and writing. Starting from 2009\, Ashok has been authoring a series of articles under the title ‘Basics of Photography’ in the magazine – Smart Photography.  Many of his articles have also been published in the ‘Viewfinder’ which is the official journal of FIP.  He was also a co-editor for the FIP’s Sapphire Jubilee Viewfinder book. So far\, he has published more than 200 articles plus equipment reviews in various leading Indian photography magazines. \nAshok has also conducted more than 100 workshops and photography courses for several corporate customers (Honeywell\, Bank of America\, Infosys\, etc.) and UNESCO. Currently\, he conducts workshops and classes regularly at Mindscreen Film Institute (MFI)\, Chennai. He was the President of Telangana Photographic Society in 2018. He was also an invited speaker at the FIP Convention in Rajahmundry \nAshok has been interviewed and featured on the Nikon Japan Centenary website for his contributions to photography. He is the only Indian to be thus honored. \nAshok Kandimalla was conferred with Honorary YPS on 22nd Mar 2024 at the FIP Convention in Mysuru\, hosted by YPS \nConnect with Mr Kandimalla: https://www.facebook.com/ashok.kandimalla?mibextid=ZbWKwL \nEmail: kashokk@gmail.com \nLanguage: English \nRequest you to join the session 15 minutes prior to check your audio and video functionality. \nThe session starts at sharp 5.30 PM IST \nHere is how to participate: \nClick here or visit the below Google Meet Link on the day of the event\nGoogle Meet Link: https://meet.google.com/bow-mnin-qjb \nIn case of any issues in connecting to the meeting\, please call us on our official number by clicking here or simply dial: +91 9513-YPS-BLR (+91 9513-977-257) \nYou can also WhatsApp us by clicking here (or on the icon below) or by sending a WhatsApp message on the below-mentioned official number. \n \nNote: Registration is NOT necessary and look forward to seeing you all this Saturday at 5:15 PM IST. \nSome salient features of YPS Saturday Meets: \n\nExclusively for Members.\nHear and be heard – These are interactive sessions and not talk shows.\nDiscuss and learn from real Member Pictures for absolute learning for everyone.\nOpinions from experts and knowledge from everyone who wants to share.\n\nSome Google Meet Self-Disciplines to be followed to make the experience memorable for everyone: \n\nDo not interrupt when something is being presented. SUMMARY:Georgia - Jewel of the Caucasus
DESCRIPTION:YPS Saturday Meet | Apr 27\, Sat | 5:30 PM IST | Travel Photography | Google Meet\nYPS is organizing a photo tour of Georgia later this year. Mr James Kerwin who has been visiting Georgia since Dec 2017 and also lived there through the pandemic will showcase his portfolio from Georgia\, and the capital Tbilisi. \nJames will showcase architectural images\, landscapes and hidden gems with stories and photo tips throughout \nSpeaker:\nMr James Kerwin \nBorn in 1982 into a British family\, James lived in Norwich\, England until January of 2019. He has committed the last ten years to documenting the beauty of forsaken\, dilapidated\, or forgotten architectural wonders; in addition\, he has started exploring ruins\, heritage spaces\, and deserted areas. He started taking architectural photos in late 2013\, and it took him into hidden corners and abandoned areas of cities\, all over the world.  \n‘Decadence\,’ his first series\, began his investigation into deserted buildings. He spent almost ten years building up a comprehensive portfolio that features some of the world’s most fascinating places. His approach to photography focuses on capturing clear lines and vibrant color palettes in the moment\, then enhancing the photos with modern post-processing methods.  \nNumerous international competitions have recognised his work and in 2017 it won both the ND Awards and the Chromatic Colour Awards in the Architecture category. He was placed second in the International Photography of the Year competition’s Architecture category in March 2018. In the exterior category\, his 2019 photo ‘Circle of Trust\,’ taken in Beirut\, Lebanon\, was shortlisted for the 2021 Architectural Photographer of the Year award.  \nHe debuted “Fabrica – A Journey Into Decay” and “Abandoned Lebanon” – published by Jonglez\, in the autumn of 2021. He has been a Pro Partner for Benro tripods since 2017 and was an ambassador for Tenba Camera Bags for some time. He held an affiliation with 5.11 Tactical\, who helped him out with luggage and clothing during 2019.  \nPhotography and travel go hand in hand. He had traveled throughout Europe extensively before he started taking pictures. He first became interested in photography in 2009\, ten months into his time in Melbourne\, Australia. He was set to head to the bright lights of Hong Kong when he went to a small camera store and bought a Panasonic Lumix LX3. Three weeks later\, he was shooting the light trail images that he had shot only a few days earlier\, standing in the dark on a bridge in Hong Kong.  \nHis journeys in pursuit of new experiences have been countless since he first picked up a camera. As a result\, in 2019 he decided to base himself permanently outside of the UK and started a photography adventure tour company\, first in Tbilisi\, Georgia. But as he developed it\, his artistic journey went on\, and he moved to Istanbul\, Türkiye – at the beginning of 2022.  \nHis portfolio shows that travel is a key component of his photographic storytelling. His curiosity about various cuisines\, textures\, colors\, and cultures inspires him to travel to new places. His steadfast passion for photography and love of travel inspire him to conduct thorough research and arrange all the necessary logistics so that he can take his camera to some truly unique places.  \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/james.kerwin/  \nYoutube:  www.jameskerwin.uk \n

SUMMARY:Nostalgia - journey from Analogue to Mirrorless
DESCRIPTION:YPS Saturday Meet | Apr 06\, Sat | 6:00 PM IST | State Youth Center\nH Satish\, the presenter of the program says that the present generation of lensmen may not have any knowledge of historical changes or metamorphosis that photography world has seen from the past two centuries or so.  \n \nHe says “The presentation shall cover a brief introduction of analogue cameras\, Films and chemicals that underwent drastic changes from good to better to best\, to what it is now. The days of historical inventions of a Pinhole camera never had an atom of imagination that it will see a Mirrorless camera. The journey has taken centuries\, even in the field of films and the developing process. Those born during the in between age of the analogue and mirrorless\, are the lucky ones to have seen\, felt and used these Vintage cameras and lenses. I have printed images on paper in the dark room and developed the unseen images on sensitive films in total darkness. These memorable journeys in the photography field are an eye opener for the present generation of Digital camera enthusiasts and a great Nostalgic journey for the old timers who still remember the Analogue process of Photography. \nI will be showcasing a few vintage cameras\, flashes\, developing tanks\, and of course digital and mirrorless cameras. I will also talk about the transition\, along with cameras\, with explanations of the trend setters.” \nAbout the Presenter: Mr H Satish\,\nD.cine\, MFIAP\, MICS\, ARPS\, PPSA\, cMoL\, GPA.PESGSPC \nHe is the first Indian to be honoured with EFIAP and MFIAP in Nature colour prints and the youngest Indian to get MFIAP. SUMMARY:Subtle Elements - Demonstration on Product Photography
DESCRIPTION:YPS Saturday Meet | Sat\, Mar 02\, 2024 | 6:00 PM IST | State Youth Center\nProduct photography is a branch of commercial photography that focuses on capturing images of products in a visually appealing and enticing manner for marketing and advertising purposes. The main goal of product photography is to showcase the features\, details\, and quality of a product\, with the aim of attracting and engaging potential customers. The images are typically used in various promotional materials such as websites\, online marketplaces\, catalogs\, brochures\, and social media platforms. Another important aspect of product photography is showcasing the product from different angles\, capturing close-up shots of intricate details\, or demonstrating its functionality in use. This helps potential customers get a clear understanding of the product’s appearance\, features\, and benefits. Effective product photography requires a good understanding of the target audience\, brand identity\, and market trends. It involves collaboration between photographers\, art directors\, stylists\, and other professionals to create compelling images that evoke desire\, trust\, and engagement. Overall\, product photography plays a critical role in influencing consumers’ buying decisions by presenting products in an attractive and professional manner\, and helping businesses stand out in a competitive market.\n\nBring your camera\, lens (50mm / macro) and any small product for a hands-on experience!\n\n\n\nAbout the Mentor:\nMr Mohan Krishnappa\n\n\n\nMohan Krishnappa was born in Bengaluru and pursued a Masters in Information Technology. Currently\, he is working as a Consultant in an IT company.\n\nWhile he is an attentive listener by nature\, he has always been actively involved in sports\, especially cricket\, representing the KSCA division 5 and 4 through a private cricket club during his college days.\n\nHowever\, his true passion for photography blossomed when he started traveling and trekking in the Himalayas. It was during one of these trips that a friend introduced him to the world of DSLR photography\, particularly landscapes and wildlife photography. This introduction turned out to be an eye-opening experience and the best thing that happened to him.  \n\nAround 2009/2010\, he came across an article in the Deccan Herald newspaper about YPS (Youth Photographic Society). Intrigued\, he decided to visit YPS\, which is located at the State Youth Center\, and became a member. This marked the transition from photography as a mere hobby to a more dedicated and responsible passion. \n\nTo further enhance his skills\, he enrolled himself in a 5-day workshop led by the renowned photographer\, Mr Anand Sharan. During this workshop\, he was introduced to the world of portrait photography. Initially\, he focused on capturing animals\, but his interest gradually shifted towards photographing people. This allowed him to break out of his introverted shell as he had to actively engage and connect with people to capture their portraits. \n\nDespite this shift towards portrait photography\, he still find solace in the tranquility of forests. For him\, it is not always about photographing mammals and birds\, but rather about enjoying the raw beauty of nature\, immersing himself in its serenity\, and breathing in the fresh air. \n\nFinding a balance between his career and passion\, he has set up a small home studio for product photography. He dedicate a significant amount of time to exploring different lighting setups and techniques for capturing compelling product images. Lately\, he has also been working on retouching\, editing\, and blending techniques\, using overlays and textures to further refine his photography skills. Overall\, photography has become an integral part of his life\, allowing him to continuously learn\, explore\, and grow both personally and creatively.\n\nInstagram: @mohankrishnappa\nFacebook: @mohankrishnappa\nX: @mohankrishnappa\n\nLanguage: English\n\nRequest everyone to arrive 15 mins early.\n\n-YPS Executive Committee
