SUMMARY:Life of Banaras - Colors of life of the ancient city in monochrome
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | S2 E16 | Sept 05\, Sun | 5:30 PM | Online\n‘The Life of Banaras’ – Manish Khattry says “It’s a humble attempt to capture and present the colors of life in monochrome. The more I wish to describe the mystics of Banaras\, the more I fall short of words. Then you know how most of your deepest experiences go unexpressed. Being a Photographer is a Blessing. It has given me a Tool to use to make people see the unseen. Each of my Pictures on Banaras and its vibrant life is a Story\, a Narrative.  \nThe Daily Life of Banaras is Unique in itself. The human activities seen here are typical of this place. All these provide immense subject for a photographer and has become a reason for an inflow of a huge number of photographers to come here and shoot. Banaras is one of the most picturized cities of the World. \nI have been clicking Banaras for the last 3 decades and till date\, it is almost a weekly ritual to move around with my Camera capturing with all the passion the various aspects of this fast changing city. When some people ask me what is it that I find so interesting in the lanes\, the Ghats\, the Ganges\, Fairs and festivals\, and the pandemic period also that I keep taking so many pictures (over 10 lakhs till date).  \nTo this I tell them that it is a Love affair between me and Banaras that doesn’t cease. Instead it is growing deeper with each passing day and every day I look at my city\, I find it to be as new as ever.” \n « ‹ of 6 › » \n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Manish Khattry has been contributing to society from the age of 16 when his cartoons found a regular place in a leading daily newspaper. Since then\, it has been a journey\, where he has devoted himself completely to the creative world comprising art\, literature\, music\, and culture. Having Introduced computers as a recognized medium of art for the first time in India in 1994\, he trained around 3000 students and got their works of Computer Painting exhibited in various art galleries including Lalit Kala Academy\, New Delhi. \nPhotography captured his interest for a reason: his desire to know and then show the beauty in the antiquity of Banaras to the World. The rich culture and heritage of this City has attracted him and inspired to click it for a decade. Today\, he has a collection of more than 10 lakh pictures of Varanasi portraying its various facets of architecture\, daily life\, fairs and festivals\, food and craft\, etc. The thought behind is also to preserve the ‘real’ contemporary Banaras through his lens and prints in this very fast-changing world. His pictures of this city\, primarily\, have gained him the honor of being one of the top-ranked Street Photographers of the World. \nNow on a serious mission of compiling and publishing these pictures\, they are a storyteller in their own way. In this series\,  ‘Varanasi – The Luminous City (2007)’\, ‘My World Through My Lens (2014)’ have already seen the light of the day and recently ‘The Book of Banaras (2015 & 2017)’ got unveiled by honourable Governor of  Uttar Pradesh\, India Shri Ram Naik and ‘The Life of Banaras :: Volume 1 – Black and White (2017)’ ‘Bhaj Vishwanatham – The first coffee table book of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple (Hindi – 2017)\, ‘The Life of Banaras :: Volume 2 – Color (2018)’\, ‘Sanskrit Bhagirathi (2018)’\, ‘Mysterious Banaras (2019)’\, ‘Kashi – Older than History by Times Group (2019)’\, ‘Magh Mela Prayagraj (2019)’\, ‘Bhaj Vishwanatham – Pictorial story of Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple (English – 2019)\, ‘Banaras – Sacred Thread of Eternal Peace (2019)’\,  ‘Chaurasi Ghat – Banaras ke thath by Jagran Group (2020)’\, ‘Banaras – City Eternal (2020)’\, ‘Kashi – Fairs and Festivals / Lakkha Mela  (2020)’ and ‘Kashi Rahasya – Vol 01 of 08 (2021).  \nHe also promotes Banaras through his photographs and books all over the world. Recently he presented his black and white works as an exhibition of photographs titled ‘Life of Banaras’ at Indira Gandhi Centre for Indian Culture\, Mauritius; organised by High Commission of India\, Mauritius. He has been invited to present such shows in other countries also.   \nA Gold Medallist in Master of Fine Arts from the Banaras Hindu University\, he served the Department of Applied Arts\, BHU as a visiting faculty. As a part of a campaign ‘Beti Bachao Beti Padhao’ of the Prime Minister of India\, his name features as a contributor for photography in Guinness Book of World Records. \nYou can follow Manish here:\nIG:https://www.instagram.com/manish_khattry/\nFB: https://www.facebook.com/manish.khattry1/\nFlickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/107786968@N08/ \n\n-YPS Executive Committee

Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 27 June 2021 at 5.30pm IST.\n\nLanguage: English/Kannada \n\nThe Speakers\nMr B P Premakumar\nMr B P Premakumar originally hails from Malnad area. After graduating from Bhandarkars College\,  Kundapura he had been living in Bangalore. Since the mid 1970s as a hobby photographer he was active in Youth Photographic Society and being its Director – Publicity had contributed many  articles to local news papers about the Salon and other activities of the Y P S.  Also as a labour union activist for nearly 17 years had served his colleagues. \nMr B P Premakumar’s special interest in Hoysala Temples made him visit various remotest villages of Karnataka and document many known and not so well known temples of this School of Architecture. His series of articles\, both in Kannada and English\, have been published in various newspapers and magazines.  \n     Presently Mr B P Premakumar is writing about the history of the Freedom Struggle of India. His various books published in Kannada are: \n\n “Bharatada Swatantra Sangrama 1857” (ಭಾರತದ ಸ್ವಾತಂತ್ರ್ಯ ಸಂಗ್ರಾಮ 1857) (Originally By V. D.Savarkar) Kannada translation\, 2007 (Sapna Book House\, Bengaluru)\n “Pranayada Kare” – (ಪ್ರಣಯದ ಕರೆ)  About the tragic love and marriage of King Edward VIII\, Mohammadali Jinna\, and Buta Singh (2010\, I B H Prakashana\, Bengaluru)\n Jallianwalabagh – Mussanje Maranahoma” (ಜಲಿಯನ್ ವಾಲ ಬಾಗ್- ಮುಸ್ಸಂಜೆಯ ಮಾರಣಹೋಮ) (2011\, Sapna Book House\,  Bengaluru)\n“Nauka Bandeya – 1946\, Sagaradalli Agnishikhe” (ನೌಕಾ ಬಂಡಾಯ 1946 ಸಾಗರದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಗ್ನಿಶಿಖೆ) (2012\, Rashtrotthana Sahitya\, Bengaluru)\n “Komagata Maru – Naukaghata”  (ಕೋಮಗಾತ ಮರು-ನೌಕಾಘಾತ) (2014\, Rashtrotthana Sahitya\, Bengaluru)\n “Sannyasi Andolana” (ಸಂನ್ಯಾಸಿ ಆಂದೋಲನ) (2017\,Rashtrotthana Sahitya\, Bengaluru)\n “Panduranga Sadashiva Khankhoje – Jivana mattu Sadhane” (ಪಾಂಡುರಂಗ ಸದಾಶಿವ ಖಾಂಖೋಜೆ – ಜೀವನ ಮತ್ತು ಸಾಧನೆ)(2019\, Rashtrotthana Sahitya\, Bengaluru) \n\nMr Ronald D’Sa\nBack in the 1950s\, when Ronald D’Sa was a teenager in Mangalore\, His father bought a Brownie E 620 format box camera for a princely sum of Rs.29/-. That’s when the photography bug bit him\, and its effects have not yet worn off! Thanks to a Middle East based uncle\, he was soon able to upgrade to an Agfa Isolette III 120 format below camera. \nBeing in a high school where the headmaster was a Rolleicord owning photography enthusiast\, who appointed a full time photographer and set up a dark room as well\, the photography club members were encouraged to watch and assist in dark room work. His next significant step forward was when he started working as a junior lawyer in Bangalore and could afford to become a member of the British Council and the U.S.libraries with access to the U.K. and U.S. photo magazines there. Then quite by chance came his encounter with the Y.P.S.\, which opened his eyes to the wonders of the world of photography and as is commonly said\, the rest is history! \nThe learning process\, be it from interaction with stalwarts and experienced members\, field trips\, studio sessions\, activities and programmes\, improved his skills . But more\, the fun\, pleasure and good times he had in all the years of his active involvement with the Y.P.S. Whether as a member\, director\, editor of the newsletter or President\, and through Dr. G. Thomas\, as the go to legal adviser to the F.I.P.\, as also joining in the activities of other photo enthusiasts’ groups\, are all truly memorable. He now\, after decades\, being able to reconnect with the vastly improved\, successful and vibrant Y.P.S.\, is indeed a matter of even greater pleasure and satisfaction to him he says. \nOn the personal front\, Mr.Ronald D’Sa is a reasonably successful and still active full time civil lawyer\,  doing both trial and High Court work. In the 1980s for around 10 years he was a part time law lecturer at the Bhavan’s College of Business Administration and from the late 1990s for another 10 years as a faculty member at the Karnataka Judicial Academy. \nHe also has been active in the field of co-operative societies\, as the president for over 10 years. \nHe has been an active long time member of the Bangalore Little Theatre\, a group which was very regularly putting up quality productions in the 1960 to 1980 years. \nMr T Chelvaraj\nMr. Chelvaraj was born in 1943 at Bangalore. After his engineering from BMS Eng college he joined NGEF as Jr. Eng.\, Planning Divn. \nHe was interested in Sports\, Athletics and Games (Basketball) during my School\, College and NGEF days representing them in tournaments he was interested in Fine Arts\, Drawing and Painting. \nAfter 1970\, He entered into ‘Photography’ with a Kodak Box Camera 120 film size. Photography was a costly hobby since Film Developing and printing b/w pictures were outsourced. Thanks to his father who gave him a ‘Yashica twin lens reflex camera’ with an attachment for 35mm film. This gave a boost to his hobby and he became addicted to seeing a lot of Movies from a camera angle. (B.V.Karanth\, Girish Karnad\, Puttanna Kanagal\, Sathyajit Ray\, Rishikesh Mukarji\, etc) Slowly he was attracted towards Film Societies (Suchitra)\, Film Appreciation Meets\, International Film Festivals\, \nHe started his own Film Society named ‘MANORANJAN’ with a fixed number of members gathered from NGEF\, interested in Art films\, German\, French Movies\, Stage Plays. Used to book bulk tickets from Cinema Managements and Film Festival Organizers. \nDuring this time\, he learnt about Govt. of Karnataka’s initiation to introduce good hobbies to youth by providing needed space and guidance in Youth Philatelic\, Youth Photography\, Youth Adventures and Trekking etc. He decided to be involved in Youth Photographic with some of his friends S.S.Holla\, M.Vishwanath\, H.BHASKAR\, NAGARAJ\, Gopalachar\, V.Rao\,. \nThey met Mr.Joginder Singh\, the Spl Officer from Govt. who sanctioned initial funds to start a Youth Photographic Society and some space in the State Youth Center at Kanteerava Stadium. With some more donations\, they could build a ‘Dark Room’\, buy an Enlarger\, Printer\, Material for developing\, etc and also engage a tutor to teach Basics of Photography to beginners in the premises. The gifted leaders like RAJAGOPAL\, Hanumantha Rao encouraged them by contributing their Awarded Pictures for our Exhibition\, Lectures at frequent intervals\, Annual Get together. Among us\, very few had good cameras and knowledge. Govt. didn’t help with further funds. They used their personal money for meetings and exhibitions.\nHe was instrumental in designing the logo of YPS Initially.\nHe feels it is a Great Day for they have achieved something and never expected that YPS could celebrate a Golden Jubilee\n \nHe is happy to learn about the present status of YPS which he feels is in Safe hands. He wishes to meet all the members soon after the COVID19 lockdowns. \n\nMr M G Gopalachar\n\n-YPS Executive Committee

It was the year 2006\, and the forests with their lush beauty\, endless tranquillity and abundance of activity captured his imagination and secured his fervour. That trip\, and two years since\, he did not once glimpse a tiger. His trips were escapades into the natural life\, a welcome diversion from the concrete jungle we call our habitat. Through the path he emerged\, his first tiger\, the cryptic dodger of his first twenty eight safaris. Nothing can compare to the adrenaline rush\, his fear and happiness\, the fascination of beholding the most majestic creation of the Gods above. \nIt’s been eight years and nothing has changed. In May 2013\, he picked up a point and shoot camera and wanted to carry home the beauty of the wild\, give a physical form to the intangible lure of nature. He started getting inclined towards photography when he picked up his first DSLR in August of 2013. In October 2013\, he went on his first tiger safari with a DSLR. Photography further honed his interest in wildlife. \n As he learnt to capture various species\, he got interested in their nomenclature. As he watched the forest cover of these precious creatures further deplete\, he wondered about the future of our planet. He strongly believes that Photography plays a crucial role in conservation of wildlife and ecological balance. It is most satisfying when someone looks at his images and say “I’ve been watching your images and would love to visit the jungles sometime” . It gives happiness and satisfaction that his work is bringing few people close to nature. \nYou can follow Anjani here: \n\nhttps://www.facebook.com/anjani.singamaneni\nhttps://www.instagram.com/anjani.singamaneni/\nhttps://www.anjani.info/about\nhttps://500px.com/anjani_singamaneni \n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:The Forgotten Trains of India
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | May 02\, Sun | 5:30 PM | Online\nRailways are the life-line of our country.  While the railways attempt to modernise stations\, some of the older lines with their laid back pace of life and quaint little railway stations that blend perfectly with the rural surroundings continue to provide important connections to remote communities.  This presentation shows you pictures that will kindle a memory from your childhood or just allow you to travel back in time \n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Although most of his commercial work is done on digital\, Nanda still shoots all his personal work on film. It has nothing to do with the quality of the images but the pure joy it brings him in being able to control every aspect of the image making process from the click of the camera to watching the print appear under the red safe light in the darkroom.  \nHe leads photo tours to different parts of the world in small groups where he likes to share his approach to experiential travel photography. Rather than everyone recreate an image that is popular on Instagram\, Nanda pushes his participants to let their personal experiences shape their photography and the stories that come from the pursuit of this art form. \n \n\nYou can follow Nanda here:\nhttps://www.facebook.com/nandman83\nhttps://www.instagram.com/grumpy_oldman_/\nhttp://phocus.com.sg/\nhttps://www.facebook.com/phocusacademy/ \n  \n-YPS Executive Committee

The serene environs of his native place left a lasting impact and he became attracted to nature at an early age. After graduating in automotive engineering\, Gurcharan lived and worked in the UK for ten years where he sorely missed the space and freedom of the bush. By 2012 he made up his mind and returned to Kenya for good. Returning to the bush coincided with him developing an interest in photography. What started off as a hobby took deep roots in his mind and soon his life started revolving around wildlife and nature photography. Time and the bush were great mentors where he developed and honed his skills to become one of the most noted nature photographers in Africa.  \nThe more time Gurcharan spent in nature\, the more passionate he became towards Mother Earth and the many fellow beings on it.
