SUMMARY:Hampi with HampiBanagar
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | March 21\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nRuins of the ancient city of Hampe are on the bucket list of most photographers.  Capturing Hampe in her various moods is a dream that few can realise.  Mr Shivashankar Banagar is one of the fortunate few who live in the neighbourhood\, Hosapete and has photographed this ancient capital of the mighty Vijayanagara empire in all her glorious moods. \nHis association with this “austere\, grandiose site”\, as described by UNESCO is so profound that he is known as ‘Hampibanagar.’ \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. It can be said that there is no one who can match his skill and knowledge of this magnificent monument.   \nAfter completing a course in journalism from Manasa Gangotri at Mysore\, he worked as a reporter from Hospet and Hampi for various media houses like\, The Times\, Vijaya Karnataka\, Udayavani\, Samyuktha Karnataka\, Kannada Prabha\, Samuktya Karnataka\, Varta Bharati\, Hosa Digantha\,  Vijaya Vani\, Hospete Times and Eenamma Kannada Naadu. \nRight from his student days he had a profound love for photography but did not own a camera. He bought a basic point and shoot camera as a result of his association with Mr Pompayyaswami Malematta\, a nature photographer.  At present he uses a Canon 50 x camera to shoot the monument and  regularly uploads his images on FaceBook.  His pictures on Hampi and Pattadakal have been exhibited in the US and Japan and have also been published in a coffee table book brought out during “Akka” sammelan in the US. \nHis proximity to this magnificent\, ancient ruins makes him always available for guidance to photographers. \nYou can follow Banagar’s work here:\nhttps://www.instagram.com/shivashankar_banagar/ \n  \n\n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:The YPS Saturday Meet - Light Diffusion in Macro Photography
DESCRIPTION:YPS Saturday Meet | Feb 27\, Sat | 5:30 PM IST | Google Meet\nThe composition of a closeup photograph is 80% determined by the lighting\, therefore it is the single most important element a macro photographer should have complete control over\, With good lighting\, we will explore how to make macro photographs pop out\, be sharp\, vibrant\, and visually stunning. \n \nAbout the Speaker\n\nMr Girish Gowda\nGirish was born and brought up in Mandya in a successful middle-class family. He completed his schooling & graduation in his hometown and MBA in Mysore after which he moved to Silicon city – Bengaluru\, in search of good opportunity. He started his corporate career as HR Professional in a multinational company & specialized in Talent Acquisition. \nHaving worked relentlessly for few years\, Girish thought of relaxing a bit on weekends and started exploring different places. Viola! The keeda (worm) of travel and spending time with nature soon caught up and he got pulled towards the love of nature. These ongoing visits became intriguing by the day to know more about wildlife and recording the findings/fascinating wildlife stories. As such\, it started to grow as a passion and bit by bit\, knowing more and more about the little creatures around us\, Girish firmed up his mind to turn his passion into a career in the field of nature and wildlife. \nGirish’s close friend\, Avinash\, noticed the potential in Girish and gifted him a entry-level DSLR for recording his observations. There by\, gave Girish\, a new dimension to explore the world of photography in the year 2013. \nDuring one of his regular visits to Hingaara Homestay at Agumbe\, Girish happened to discuss his career aspirations with Shashank and then started his association as a naturalist at Hingaara. Soon enough the documentation work of the little wonders of Western Ghats began. \nGirish has extensively studied (and is still studying) the wildlife behavior in Western Ghats (not just snakes but other critters importantly) and recorded some mind-boggling facts of these little wonders. Through his keen observation\, untiring search for information and various discussions with specialists\, he himself has become a compendium of knowledge about Western Ghats wildlife and its specialties. \nHis recent foray into helping other photographers achieve better macro photographs with the RADIANT DIFFUSER\, has been a wonderful journey and opend many a pair of eyes to the nuances of effective lighting. \nYou can connect with Mr. Girish here:\nCell – 99864 39974\nEmail – cgirishgowda@gmail.com\nFB – https://www.facebook.com/girishgowdac\nIG – https://www.instagram.com/girishgowda.c/ \n\nLanguage: English \nDo join us on 27 Feb\, 2021\, 5:30 pm IST on Google Meet at the usual coordinates \nAlso request you to join the session 15 mins in prior to check your audio and video functionality. \nThe session starts at sharp 5.30 PM IST \nHere is how to participate: \nClick here or visit the below Google Meet Link on the day of the event\nGoogle Meet Link: https://meet.google.com/jgi-npbe-sjt \nIn case of any issues in connecting to the meeting\, request to please call us on our official number by clicking here or simply dial: +91 9513-YPS-BLR (+91 9513-977-257) \nYou can also WhatsApp us by clicking here (or on the icon below) or by sending a WhatsApp message on the above mentioned official number. \n \nNote: Registration is NOT necessary and look forward to seeing you all this Saturday at 5:15 PM IST. \n\nSome salient features of YPS Saturday Meets: \n\nExclusively for Members.\nHear and be heard – These are interactive sessions and not talk shows.\nDiscuss and learn from real Member Pictures for absolute learning for every one.\nOpinion from experts and knowledge from everyone who wants to share.\n\nSome Google Meet Self-Disciplines to be followed to make the experience memorable for everyone: \n\nDo not interrupt when something is being presented. SUMMARY:My Unending Journey With Butterflies
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | Feb 21\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nButterflies are one of the most beautiful\, active\, amazing creations of nature. They are important pollinators\, an integral part of the food web\, ecologically beneficial\, and help in ecosystem balance. Butterflies have fascinated man since ages. Their colorful fluttering wings invite our awe. Children love to chase them and poets get inspired to write poems about them. Their strange life pattern baffles even the wisest scientists\, while nature lovers owe their gratitude for the priceless role played by these winged beauties in perpetuating life on earth. The butterfly is indeed a unique and amazing creature which deserves our attention and careful study. \n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 21 Feb 2021 at 5.30pm IST.\n\nLanguage: English \n\nAbout the Presenter\nMr Sammilan Shetty\n \nBorn on May 23\, 1985 in Belvai near Moodabidri of Dakshina Kannada district. He completed his schooling at Rotary English Medium School\, Moodabidri and then studied at Sri Bhuvanendra College\, Karkala. Being born and brought up in a village\, the natural instinct to conserve wildlife and nature\, influenced a lot in his life. \nHis special interest for butterflies grew when he was allotted a project on “Study of local butterflies”\, by his Zoology teacher\, Prof. Ashok C H\, during his graduation days at Alva’s College Moodbidri. Since then\, he has been keenly observing these winged beauties and dedicated himself to conserve them. \nAs a 19 year old\, he had recorded about 30 species. They had a wild patch of Clerodendrum viscosum which used to attract many butterflies including the endemic Malabar Banded Peacock (now the logo of the butterfly park). He was so fascinated by this butterfly that he spent hours waiting for it near the flowering patch with his camera. These butterflies returned back to the same flowering patch every half an hour to one hour and it was worth the wait. He managed to click his first photograph of this beauty  with his Kodak EasyShare camera\, which was gifted by his brother. Until 2013 he had recorded about 70 species of butterflies in his backyard.  \nThe Butterfly Park in Belvai which was founded by him in the year 2011\, with the aim of conserving the butterfly fauna of Western Ghats\, also creates awareness among the general public and students\, making them understand the importance of butterflies in nature. The park encourages and motivates people to create and conserve natural habitat for butterflies\, and other wildlife forms.  His 100 minutes documentary film “Life of butterflies”\, released last season\, reveals the interesting facts about butterflies and their life history. The footage for the documentary was shot\, exclusively at the butterfly park by him\, in a 4 years span. It is the country’s first ever comprehensive documentary on butterflies and is appreciated by butterfly experts across the nation. \nHe was featured in ‘Amazing Indians’ Season III by Times Now as an ‘Exceptional Eco Saviour’ in 2013 for his work on butterfly conservation. The butterfly park at Belvai was also honoured by ‘World Book of Records’\, London\, UK\, in 2018 for hosting awareness programs and conservation activities. He was awarded the ‘Popular Choice Award’ in 2020 by Deccan Herald at the DH Changemakers 2020 event \nYou can follow Sammilan’s work here:\nFB: https://www.facebook.com/sammilan.shetty/\nIG: https://www.instagram.com/sammilan_shetty\nTwitter: https://twitter.com/sammilanshetty \n\n\n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Chasing The Light….
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | January 31\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nChasing light is what every photographer enjoys doing\, for it is one of the most important ingredients in a picture to make people say ‘Wow’.   \nBrian Hopper  has been at this since he was a little boy\, borrowing his dad’s camera.  The chase has resulted in many awards and accolades including his successful panel of pictures submitted to The Royal Photographic Society.  He is the proud possessor of 20  FIAP Blue Badges – a national record!  Dec 2020 has culminated in him being appointed the Regional Organiser in Ireland for The Royal Photographic Society. \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://facebook.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 31 Jan 2021 at 5.30pm IST.\nYouTube:\n1. Subscribe to YPS YouTube channel by clicking here\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 31 Jan 2021 at 5.30pm IST.\n\nLanguage: English \n\nAbout the Speaker\nMr Brian Hopper\nEFIAP/d2\, ARPS\, FIPF \nBrian has been interested in photography ever since he could “borrow” his Dad’s camera\, head down to Mondello (a racetrack outside Dublin) and photograph motorcycle racing. He has had some of his most enjoyable days out there with a little photography and a bit of “craic” with the likes of the legendary Joey Dunlop and Conor McGinn. Sadly\, too many Irish road-racers have been badly injured and have lost their lives in the sport – they give so much enjoyment to so many fans often for very meagre prizes. Brian still attends road-racing events and still enjoys the challenge involved in photographing this sport. \n\nTo broaden horizons\, Brian regularly enters International Salons under the auspices of The Federation Internationale de l’Art Photographique – FIAP and The Photographic Society of America – PSA.  \nWhen you enter an International Salon “parish politics” don’t exist – you survive on the strength of your pictures. Irish photographers have\, over the years\, punched well above their weight in International Salons. \nAchievements: \n\nTo date Brian has amassed over 4000 acceptances with a total of over 520 awards in National and International photographic competitions. \nBrian was awarded his first FIAP Gold Medal in The Edinburgh Photographic Society’s 148th International Exhibition of Pictorial Photography – one of the most difficult salons to achieve acceptances where 1755 prints were entered from 41 countries and only 204 prints were accepted for the exhibition – an acceptance rate of 11.62%. \nIn February 2011 he was awarded his first PSA Gold Medal in 24eme Salon Photo de Riedisheim in France. \nIn May 2011 he was awarded his first London Salon of Photography medal\, in their centenary year. \nIn June 2011 Brian was awarded his first FIAP Blue Badge for the “Best Photographer” in The 3rd Great British Small Print Circuit (He received 51 acceptances with 3 awards). He is now the proud possessor of twenty (20) FIAP Blue Badges – a national record !\n\nBrian was awarded the following distinctions from FIAP: \nAFIAP (Artiste – FIAP) in February 2008\,  \nEFIAP (Excellence – FIAP) in February 2011\,  \nEFIAP/b (Excellence FIAP Bronze) in 2012\,  \nEFIAP/s (Excellence FIAP Silver) in 2013\,  \nEFIAP/g (Excellence FIAP Gold) in 2014\,  \nEFIAP/p (Excellence FIAP Platinum) in 2015\,  \nEFIAP/d1 (Excellence FIAP Diamond 1) in 2018\, \nEFIAP/d2 (Excellence FIAP Diamond 2) in April 2020 – the single highest FIAP distinction attained through international salon acceptances / awards by any photographer in Ireland (North or South) – there are a very limited number of photographers with EFIAP/d2 in the world. \n\nBrian achieved his Licentiate (LIPF) in 2003\, \nAssociateship (AIPF) in 2005 and \nFellowship (FIPF) in 2008 with The Irish Photographic Federation \nAssociateship (ARPS) in 2009 with The Royal Photographic Society of Great Britain. \n\nIn December 2020 Brian was appointed as the Regional Organiser in Ireland for The Royal Photographic Society \nThe journey continues … \n\nYou can follow his work here:\nMy Website: www.creatingapicture.com\nMy Facebook: www.facebook.com/brian.hopper.14 \n\n\n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Antarctica - the last frontier
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | December 13\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nThere is possibly no place on earth more remote\, more forbidding\, more harsh than the continent of Antarctica – characterised by high winds\, rain\, snow\, ice and cold temperatures that make anyone planning to visit it\, have second thoughts. It is no wonder\, therefore\, that very few people have actually set foot on this remarkable place. Dr Ajit Huilgol has been one of the fortunate few. He spent a month photographing the iconic landscape and the animals and birds that inhabit this wilderness\, and came back with over 30\,000 photos\, some of which he would like to share with us. So\, join him as he takes you on a photographic journey to one of the last\, relatively unexplored frontiers on earth. On this journey\, you will see penguins\, seals\, icebergs and other wonders\, and also learn about the whaling industry and some of the early explorers and adventurers.\n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://facebook.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 13 Dec 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\nYouTube:\n1. Subscribe to YPS YouTube channel by clicking here\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 13 Dec 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr Ajit K Huilgol \nDr Ajit K Huilgol is a multifaceted individual\, and wears many hats. \n\nHe is a kidney transplant surgeon based in Bangalore\, and has been doing kidney transplants in this city since the very first successful transplant in Karnataka in 1983. Since then he has performed close to 2500 kidney transplants\, the most by any surgeon in Karnataka.  \nHe was the President of the prestigious Indian Society of Organ Transplantation from 2010 to 2012\, and has many publications in national and international journals. He has received many awards\, including the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Nephrology Association of Karnataka\, Lifetime Achievement Award given by FKCCI\, Karnataka\, Samaja Seva Bhushan Award given by the Subharam Trust\, Karnataka\, and many others. \nDr Huilgol has been invited by the Govts of Bangladesh\, Ethiopia\, Uganda\, and Nigeria to set up kidney transplant centres in those countries\, and to train their surgeons. \nWhile still in medical college as an undergraduate\, he made his debut as a cricket commentator in English for All India Radio\, Bangalore\, in 1972. He continued to give commentary\, in spite of being a busy surgeon\, until 2005. He was probably the youngest commentator in the country when he made his debut as a 20 year old in 1972. He has also lent his voice to Doordarshan for some international cricket matches\, including the Women’s World Cup in 1997\, and the Sri Lanka vs India ODI in 1997. \nAgain\, while still an undergraduate\, he became a hypnotist\, and conducted many hypnosis shows in Bangalore and Mysore. \nEven as a youngster Dr Huilgol was interested in nature and wildlife\, but it wasn’t until 2007 when he developed a keen interest in wildlife photography. With Mr M N Jayakumar as his guru\, he bought his first digital camera\, the Canon 1D Mk3\, and started visiting many wildlife reserves in India and abroad.  \nIn 2008 he received his Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society. In 2009 he received the Runner-up Award in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the Mammals Behaviour category. His images and articles have appeared in many magazines and books. He is a very sought-after speaker on topics ranging from travels to post-processing.  \nIn June 2001\, his image and video of a large male tiger (later named Masti) caught in a jaw trap in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve led to the arrest of over 40 poachers of the notorious Sansar Chand gang. For this he was made a Special Police Officer in the CID Forest Wing\, Govt of Karnataka.  \nFinally\, Dr Huilgol has also acted in a movie\, “Freaky Chakra” that starred Dipti Naval. \nYou can follow his work here:\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ajit.huilgol.3 \n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Experimentation with Form and Color
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | November 22\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nFor about 40 years or so Mr Anil Risal Singh enjoyed doing  Landscape Photography.  But then he started thinking what was so special if a beautiful photograph is made out of the beautiful subject? He should strive to create beauty out of ordinary looking common things which usually go unnoticed…..and thus began a new journey –  Experimentation with FORM & COLOUR \n \nFrom the very beginning\, he had a very strong liking for colourful geometrical and graphic forms found in nature as well as in man-made structures.  With the passage of time\, this liking has become stronger & stronger & stronger ….. \nand he started looking & striving  for the possibilities to extract the essence of these elements to transform them into contemporary art form.   \nHe says “Colour & form play important roles in our life in many ways in terms of utility & aesthetics. In this world “form and colour”   are important aspects and attributes for everything\, whether living or nonliving.  \nIn nature and in man-made structures we find numerous forms (Geometrical\, graphic or otherwise) and colours and these forms have tremendous relationship and bonding with each other and thus give the concept of beauty and sense of aesthetics and stimulate the human mind. \nThese images deal with patterns (forms) & colours\, and their relationship derived from classic ideals of balance and symmetry. \nThese Images were created mostly from ordinary looking structures to show the inner vision through the pictures which create something unusual\, and that unusual comes to life from looking at them through the camera viewfinder. \nThe main aim & concept is to  create something unusual from most usual and ordinary looking things \nI feel there are splendid lines (forms) and energy and space which are brilliantly crafting balance between stability and movement and  it inspires me to use them with a sense of aesthetic possibilities.” \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. SUMMARY:My Journey - from Prostate to Portrait
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | October 25\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook page\nAs the tagline denotes\, Profession and Passion can be comrades. \nBeing a medical practitioner needs dedication\, perfection\, patience\, compassion and a drive for continual learning.  These qualities when combined with a passion for photography is a perfect combination to excel in all genres of photography.  Dr Barun K Sinha\, a medical practitioner by profession is also a passionate photographer.  Among the fraternity of photographers he is well known for his excellent photography and as the dedicated Hon. Secretary-General of FIP.  \nHere are a couple of ‘Quotable Quotes’ from Dr Barun K Sinha –\n“It is a wrong notion that practice makes you perfect. It is the perfect practice which makes you perfect. So practice your craft in the correct way.”\n“I am never satisfied with my work. I am yet to shoot an image which is equal to 1000 words. Satisfaction is death.” \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 25 Oct 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Barun K Sinha MFIAP\, ESFIAP\, Hon. FIP\, ARPS\, Hon. FSoF\, Hon. FICS\, Hon. PESGSPC\, Hon. PAD \n\n \nThe tagline  “ from Prostate to Portrait “ has its origin in the fact that when Dr Barun Sinha first set up his studio at home in 2003-04\, his first model was an old man on whom he had operated upon for prostate. Since his home and hospital are across the road\, he invited the patient to his home on the day of discharge and made the portrait. Over the years he has done it on several occasions. His elder son who was in the UK at that time mooted the idea of having a sign-post on the road saying ‘Prostate to the left and Portrait to the right!’ \nDr Sinha started photography way back in 1970 when a visiting Japanese photographer sold his 2 well used  Minolta SLR bodies\, a 58 mm and 200 mm tele lens for Rs 1000/- only. At that time he was a 2nd year medico.  In 1969 he had been to Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary with 5 friends during the Puja holidays. All rooms and dormitories  were occupied. They had no choice other than to return when suddenly they came across a watch tower ( Tower # 3 ) and decided to make it their night shelter. The geosmin of the jungle was simply captivating and this was the love at first sight for him. No photography was involved at that time. Just pure and infinite love for the jungle and nature.  Just a year later the Japanese came as a messenger of God and then Dr Sinha had a purpose to visit jungles: Photography. \nHis photography evolved rather slowly\, mostly because of pressure of studies as a medico. Slowly and steadily he was learning the craft\, mostly from fellow photographers and watching different portfolios circulated by FIP and the local club Photographic Association of Bihar (PhAB) of which he was the founder secretary in 1975. He was also a member of FIP from day one. His first Salon acceptance was on a TP shot in a rice field near Patna in 1977.  Some who helped were Sri TNA Perumal and Sri RS Chopra who were extremely knowledgeable and ever so willing to share their vast knowledge. Among the contemporary photographers he admires and often works together with Dr Pramod Shanbag of Bangalore. \nHis favourite lens is 400 mm 2.8 on D5.  His all time favourite is Natural history Photography but he is equally at ease doing street\, portrait both indoors as well as outdoors\, landscape and travel. \nDr Sinha says “The current lot of young photographers are highly talented\, perhaps more than the previous generation. They do not shy away from experimenting.  Nature photography is progressing in leaps and bounds in India. This generation is learning photo editing extremely well.”  \nHe says\, “Share your knowledge and provide a learning platform for the beginners.  I prescribe that you meet as often as possible\, go out for photo shoots regularly and participate in as many salons as possible. This is how I have learnt my photography. And be humble at your success. Some people start boasting about their achievements and that leads to  downfall.” \n-YPS Executive Committee
