SUMMARY:Antarctica - the last frontier
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | December 13\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nThere is possibly no place on earth more remote\, more forbidding\, more harsh than the continent of Antarctica – characterised by high winds\, rain\, snow\, ice and cold temperatures that make anyone planning to visit it\, have second thoughts. It is no wonder\, therefore\, that very few people have actually set foot on this remarkable place. Dr Ajit Huilgol has been one of the fortunate few. He spent a month photographing the iconic landscape and the animals and birds that inhabit this wilderness\, and came back with over 30\,000 photos\, some of which he would like to share with us. So\, join him as he takes you on a photographic journey to one of the last\, relatively unexplored frontiers on earth. On this journey\, you will see penguins\, seals\, icebergs and other wonders\, and also learn about the whaling industry and some of the early explorers and adventurers.\n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://facebook.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 13 Dec 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\nYouTube:\n1. Subscribe to YPS YouTube channel by clicking here\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 13 Dec 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr Ajit K Huilgol \nDr Ajit K Huilgol is a multifaceted individual\, and wears many hats. \n\nHe is a kidney transplant surgeon based in Bangalore\, and has been doing kidney transplants in this city since the very first successful transplant in Karnataka in 1983. Since then he has performed close to 2500 kidney transplants\, the most by any surgeon in Karnataka.  \nHe was the President of the prestigious Indian Society of Organ Transplantation from 2010 to 2012\, and has many publications in national and international journals. He has received many awards\, including the Lifetime Achievement Award given by the Nephrology Association of Karnataka\, Lifetime Achievement Award given by FKCCI\, Karnataka\, Samaja Seva Bhushan Award given by the Subharam Trust\, Karnataka\, and many others. \nDr Huilgol has been invited by the Govts of Bangladesh\, Ethiopia\, Uganda\, and Nigeria to set up kidney transplant centres in those countries\, and to train their surgeons. \nWhile still in medical college as an undergraduate\, he made his debut as a cricket commentator in English for All India Radio\, Bangalore\, in 1972. He continued to give commentary\, in spite of being a busy surgeon\, until 2005. He was probably the youngest commentator in the country when he made his debut as a 20 year old in 1972. He has also lent his voice to Doordarshan for some international cricket matches\, including the Women’s World Cup in 1997\, and the Sri Lanka vs India ODI in 1997. \nAgain\, while still an undergraduate\, he became a hypnotist\, and conducted many hypnosis shows in Bangalore and Mysore. \nEven as a youngster Dr Huilgol was interested in nature and wildlife\, but it wasn’t until 2007 when he developed a keen interest in wildlife photography. With Mr M N Jayakumar as his guru\, he bought his first digital camera\, the Canon 1D Mk3\, and started visiting many wildlife reserves in India and abroad.  \nIn 2008 he received his Associateship of the Royal Photographic Society. In 2009 he received the Runner-up Award in the prestigious BBC Wildlife Photographer of the Year in the Mammals Behaviour category. His images and articles have appeared in many magazines and books. He is a very sought-after speaker on topics ranging from travels to post-processing.  \nIn June 2001\, his image and video of a large male tiger (later named Masti) caught in a jaw trap in Nagarahole Tiger Reserve led to the arrest of over 40 poachers of the notorious Sansar Chand gang. For this he was made a Special Police Officer in the CID Forest Wing\, Govt of Karnataka.  \nFinally\, Dr Huilgol has also acted in a movie\, “Freaky Chakra” that starred Dipti Naval. \nYou can follow his work here:\nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/ajit.huilgol.3 \n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Experimentation with Form and Color
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | November 22\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook Page and YouTube Channel\nFor about 40 years or so Mr Anil Risal Singh enjoyed doing  Landscape Photography.  But then he started thinking what was so special if a beautiful photograph is made out of the beautiful subject? He should strive to create beauty out of ordinary looking common things which usually go unnoticed…..and thus began a new journey –  Experimentation with FORM & COLOUR \n \nFrom the very beginning\, he had a very strong liking for colourful geometrical and graphic forms found in nature as well as in man-made structures.  With the passage of time\, this liking has become stronger & stronger & stronger ….. \nand he started looking & striving  for the possibilities to extract the essence of these elements to transform them into contemporary art form.   \nHe says “Colour & form play important roles in our life in many ways in terms of utility & aesthetics. In this world “form and colour”   are important aspects and attributes for everything\, whether living or nonliving.  \nIn nature and in man-made structures we find numerous forms (Geometrical\, graphic or otherwise) and colours and these forms have tremendous relationship and bonding with each other and thus give the concept of beauty and sense of aesthetics and stimulate the human mind. \nThese images deal with patterns (forms) & colours\, and their relationship derived from classic ideals of balance and symmetry. \nThese Images were created mostly from ordinary looking structures to show the inner vision through the pictures which create something unusual\, and that unusual comes to life from looking at them through the camera viewfinder. \nThe main aim & concept is to  create something unusual from most usual and ordinary looking things \nI feel there are splendid lines (forms) and energy and space which are brilliantly crafting balance between stability and movement and  it inspires me to use them with a sense of aesthetic possibilities.” \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. SUMMARY:My Journey - from Prostate to Portrait
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | October 25\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook page\nAs the tagline denotes\, Profession and Passion can be comrades. \nBeing a medical practitioner needs dedication\, perfection\, patience\, compassion and a drive for continual learning.  These qualities when combined with a passion for photography is a perfect combination to excel in all genres of photography.  Dr Barun K Sinha\, a medical practitioner by profession is also a passionate photographer.  Among the fraternity of photographers he is well known for his excellent photography and as the dedicated Hon. Secretary-General of FIP.  \nHere are a couple of ‘Quotable Quotes’ from Dr Barun K Sinha –\n“It is a wrong notion that practice makes you perfect. It is the perfect practice which makes you perfect. So practice your craft in the correct way.”\n“I am never satisfied with my work. I am yet to shoot an image which is equal to 1000 words. Satisfaction is death.” \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Like the YPS Facebook page by clicking here:\n2. Click on https://facebook.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 25 Oct 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\nYouTube:\n1. Subscribe to YPS YouTube channel by clicking here\n2. Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 25 Oct 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Barun K Sinha MFIAP\, ESFIAP\, Hon. FIP\, ARPS\, Hon. FSoF\, Hon. FICS\, Hon. PESGSPC\, Hon. PAD \n\n \nThe tagline  “ from Prostate to Portrait “ has its origin in the fact that when Dr Barun Sinha first set up his studio at home in 2003-04\, his first model was an old man on whom he had operated upon for prostate. Since his home and hospital are across the road\, he invited the patient to his home on the day of discharge and made the portrait. Over the years he has done it on several occasions. His elder son who was in the UK at that time mooted the idea of having a sign-post on the road saying ‘Prostate to the left and Portrait to the right!’ \nDr Sinha started photography way back in 1970 when a visiting Japanese photographer sold his 2 well used  Minolta SLR bodies\, a 58 mm and 200 mm tele lens for Rs 1000/- only. At that time he was a 2nd year medico.  In 1969 he had been to Hazaribagh Wildlife Sanctuary with 5 friends during the Puja holidays. All rooms and dormitories  were occupied. They had no choice other than to return when suddenly they came across a watch tower ( Tower # 3 ) and decided to make it their night shelter. The geosmin of the jungle was simply captivating and this was the love at first sight for him. No photography was involved at that time. Just pure and infinite love for the jungle and nature.  Just a year later the Japanese came as a messenger of God and then Dr Sinha had a purpose to visit jungles: Photography. \nHis photography evolved rather slowly\, mostly because of pressure of studies as a medico. Slowly and steadily he was learning the craft\, mostly from fellow photographers and watching different portfolios circulated by FIP and the local club Photographic Association of Bihar (PhAB) of which he was the founder secretary in 1975. He was also a member of FIP from day one. His first Salon acceptance was on a TP shot in a rice field near Patna in 1977.  Some who helped were Sri TNA Perumal and Sri RS Chopra who were extremely knowledgeable and ever so willing to share their vast knowledge. Among the contemporary photographers he admires and often works together with Dr Pramod Shanbag of Bangalore. \nHis favourite lens is 400 mm 2.8 on D5.  His all time favourite is Natural history Photography but he is equally at ease doing street\, portrait both indoors as well as outdoors\, landscape and travel. \nDr Sinha says “The current lot of young photographers are highly talented\, perhaps more than the previous generation. They do not shy away from experimenting.  Nature photography is progressing in leaps and bounds in India. This generation is learning photo editing extremely well.”  \nHe says\, “Share your knowledge and provide a learning platform for the beginners.  I prescribe that you meet as often as possible\, go out for photo shoots regularly and participate in as many salons as possible. This is how I have learnt my photography. And be humble at your success. Some people start boasting about their achievements and that leads to  downfall.” \n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Visual Stories
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | October 11\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook page & YouTube Channel\nEveryone likes a good story\, and if it’s a visual story\, even better!  When each picture speaks a thousand words\, it indeed captivates the onlooker……Mr Mansur a visual storyteller captivates imagination with his images from different genres of photography\, comprising Landscape\, Candid\, Stars\, and Panorama/Vertorama. \n \nTo join the session\n\nFaceBook:\n1. Photography has been his passion\, and by profession\, he is an agriculturist.  \nHis father presented him with his first SLR Camera- Nikon FE with a 200mm lens\, in the year 1985\, beginning his photography journey. It was a very challenging task in the beginning\, as it was an era of film photography.  Now he believes that with the advent of digital photography\, life has become quite simple as one can see the results instantly and correct the exposure as required. He also feels that earlier\, photographers were dependent more on photo processor/darkroom technicians\, but now because of digitalisation\, one can do it on the computer on their own.  \nInitially he was inclined towards photographing birds\, but now he is into all intricacies of nature. He captures whatever inspires him\, be it a candid\, landscape\, wildlife\, macro\, monuments and of course his favourite Stars that never cease to mesmerise him. \n  \n\n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:WILDLIFE WEEK 2020 - DAY 7 - PRAVEEN PUROHIT
DESCRIPTION:Wildlife Week 2020 – OCT 8\, THU – 5:30 PM – Facebook Live\, Youtube Live\nYPS celebrates Wildlife Week every year. This year the Wildlife Week will be celebrated with talk shows by well known wildlife photographers every day from October 2nd to October 8th. Take a look at the YPS Wildlife Week 2020 page for a full schedule of programs. \nThe Webinar series is open to all and is available through Facebook Live and Youtube Live. \nTo get notified of YPS Webinars\, \n\nLike the YPS Facebook page or\nSubscribe to YPS Youtube Channel and turn notifications on.\n\n \nThe 4 “P”s of Photography\nOn the last Day\, Day 7\, it is time to understand what drives the Wildlife Photographers to make those unforgetable frames frozen in time. \nThis presentation by Praveen Purohit is titled 4 “P”s of Photography\, and by logic it should have been titled 6 “P”s of photography. Praveen is probably the most passionate wildlife photographer that we\nhave amongst us today. He was born in the concrete jungles of Mumbai. In his formative years\, his yearly respite was the month-long vacations the family took to be back in their hometown in the hills of Uttarakhand. In 2011 he visited Amritsar with his point and shoot and that opened him up to possibilities of photography. \nThe “aha” light bulb moment came in 2012\, when Praveen attended a 8 week course organized by DCP Expeditions\, watching Caesar Sengupta\, Yashpal Rathore\, Amit Rane and others and learning from them\, this in-turn led to a 2 year journey by joining DCP as a Team Lead on expeditions and photo walks. \nPraveen then took the momentous decision to pack his bags and move to Uttarakhand and answer the call of the Himalayas. Back\nhome in Srinagar UK\, Praveen studiously photographed the beauty of each of the spots showcasing its flora\, fauna\, culture and\nsurroundings. \nHis carefully crafted images of the Himalayan Monal\, Yellow-throated Marten\, Cheer Pheasant and the Himalayan Thar in their natural environment showcase his attention to detail. This love for photography has netted him awards\, accolades and publications by the bushel\, notable among them are from Nature’s Best Photography\, Nature In Focus\, Better Photography etc.\, and\nproudly awarded and published in various media by the State of Uttarakhand and its Department of Tourism. \n praveenpurohit.com \n @Praveen-Purohit \n @praveensimages \n @praveensimages \n

A commerce student in the mid 90’s\, he was drawn into the dotcom boom designing websites and later building his own design company. \nSachin caught the photograph bug incredibly early\, it started in the year 2000 with a 7-day trip to Sundarbans Tiger Reserve\, with Mr. Kedar Gore as a mentor. This experience helped him appreciate nature in its entirety instead of as a single animal. He attempts to portray the many moods of wildlife\, from the tenderness expressed by a mother towards her child to the violent confrontations between beasts and strives to convey hope – both for wildlife and for humanity. Sachin’s images inspire curiosity about the natural world and help people reconnect with nature. \nHis photographs have been featured in national and international media\, and his images have received several photography awards from Sanctuary Asia\, DJMPC\, Better Photography amongst others. Apart from birds and mammals\, his love for frogs has helped re-discover a new species of frog in India called “Ramanella anamalaeinsis”. \n sachinrai.com \n @SachinRaiPhotography \n @sachin_rai_photography \n @sachin_rai \n

Click on https://youtube.com/ypsbengaluru/live/ on 27 Sep 2020 at 5.30pm IST.\n\n\nAbout the Speaker\nMr. Umesh Gogna \n\n \nMr Gogna comes from a family of jewelers.  After completing his post graduation\, he started helping his father in their family business while also working on his Ph.D. thesis on ancient Indian jewelry. He needed good quality photographs of jewelry for his thesis. Good images were difficult to come by in those days and he could not afford to hire a professional photographer.  In order to get good images for his thesis\, he decided to buy a camera and try photographing the jewelry himself.  He bought a second hand Pentax camera kit\, thus starting his journey as a photographer. \nAfter some disappointments\, and a lot of hard work\, he was able to get good images for his thesis. He also discovered that he liked photography and started spending more and more time with his camera. He upgraded his camera kit\, brought studio lights and even set up a small studio in his house.  Soon people started asking him to photograph their jewelry and he was happy to oblige.  He also loved to travel to new destinations with his camera and take photographs.  \nWhen he realized that he was devoting more time to photography than to family business\, he decided to turn professional and devote all his time to photography.  It was a difficult decision as he was essentially leaving a secure business for the uncharted waters of professional photography\, but now after so many years he is glad that he made that choice. Photography has always been the main passion of his life and he feels especially lucky and blessed to be able to devote all his time to it.  \nMost of his professional work is in the field of handicraft and jewelry\, stone and the hospitality industry. Apart from his professional work he also does a lot of travel and nature photography. Over the years he has spent a lot of time documenting the cultural\, architectural and natural heritage of Rajasthan and the Himalayas. The wilderness\, the open spaces of the desert and the mountains attract and inspire him. His work has been published in several books on these subjects.  \nHe learned photography the hard way\, through experimentation\, trial and error\, as there were no good institutes or teachers/mentors in Jaipur. After spending many years as a professional photographer\, he felt that he should give back something to the profession of photography. One area where he felt he could contribute was by educating aspiring photographers about the science and art of photography.  \n He started helping young photographers by conducting workshops and also by personally mentoring them. It started as a small effort initially\, but over the years\, he has conducted more than 150 workshops. These workshops are on photography related subjects like Portraiture\, Photographing Jewelry\, Fashion Photography\, Digital Photography\, Digital Post Production amongst others. He also gives lectures in universities and colleges and mentors enthusiasts in many photography clubs.  \nDuring the early days of his career he used to shoot on film. He used a 35mm camera kit\, a 645 camera kit and a 4×5 camera kit. He likes to stay at the cutting edge of technology and by nature\, an early adopter of technology.  He was one of the first to shift to digital cameras because he could see the immense advantages offered by them.  \nHe shoots in the studio as well as in the field and therefore  needs a very flexible and responsive system. He is also very particular about the quality of the images he creates. For him only the best will do.  \nInitially he was a bit apprehensive about using a mirrorless camera\, but  soon realized the design advantages that a mirrorless system offers over a traditional DSLR and shifted to a mirrorless system. The Sony A7RM2\, with 42.4 megapixels is his camera of choice. The A7RM2 gives  great performance with matchless image quality in a small\, well designed\, package. With its 399 focusing points with on-sensor phase detection autofocus system\, the A7RM2 focuses almost instantly\, even in very low light conditions. The BSI sensor gives industry leading high ISO performance\, making photographs possible even in very low light conditions. The BSI sensor also ensures that the images have industry leading dynamic range. He also has the Sony A7S. He likes to use it for time lapse and night astrophotography because of its industry leading high ISO performance.  \nA sensor is only as good as the lenses that it is coupled with. Sony and Zeiss offer a world beating range of lenses. In addition\, adapters are available for almost all makes of lenses. His lens kit consists of the FE 16-35 f4.0\, FE 35 f1.4\, FE 24-70mm f4.0\, FE 70-200mm f4.0 G and the FE90mm f2.8 Micro.  \nProfessional journey\nUmesh Gogna started his journey as a freelance photographer in 1998. He has photographed many commercial & tourism assignments for his clients and Government departments. Travel\, landscape & nature photography are his foremost passions.  \nHe has conducted more than 250 workshops on photography. Having conducted workshops for Canon India as a mentor for seven years (2008-2014)\, Mr. Gogna is currently a brand ambassador and mentor for Sony Alpha. Nowadays\, his photography expeditions and master classes are very popular. \nHe has spent a lot of time in documenting the cultural & architectural heritage of Rajasthan and the Himalayas. His work on these subjects has been published in several books. His works on Rajasthan’s royalty\, fairs\, festivals & colors are framed in the coffee table books of Pali\, Jalore & Jhalawar. \n Several other books are lined up to be published. \nAwards: \n\nFounder Member and Mentor / Jury at Camarena Academy (FB)\nHonored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by Jaipur Photographer’s Club\nHonored with the Lifetime Achievement Award for contributing to education in photography by Jodhana Photojournalist Society\nHonoured by Governor of Rajasthan (Margaret Alva) for contributing to education in photography\nPart of Jury for a number of photographer’s clubs\, colleges and schools.\nConducted over 250 photography workshops PAN-India\n\nGuest Faculty in Allahabad University (2008 to 2019)\, Central University of Bihar\, BITS Pilani Photography Club and more. \n\n-YPS Executive Committee
