Welcome to the world of African Wildlife Photography!  Presenter: Mr Gurcharan Roopra Gurcharan was born and raised in Nairobi\, Kenya. The serene environs of his native place left a lasting impact and he became attracted to nature at an early age. After graduating in automotive engineering\, Gurcharan lived and worked in the UK for ten years where he sorely missed the space and freedom of the bush. By 2012 he made up his mind and returned to Kenya for good. Return to the bush coincided with him developing an interest in photography. What started off as a hobby took deep roots in his mind and soon his life started revolving around wildlife and nature photography. Time and the bush were great mentors where he developed and honed his skills to become one of the most noted nature photographers in Africa.  The more time Gurcharan spent in nature\, the more passionate he has become towards Mother Earth and the many fellow beings on it. He is committed to the cause of a pristine earth and has devoted his time and energy to many conservation causes in Kenya. He is happy for the fact that his images have come useful for many conservation projects. Presenter: Mr Nandakumar M N Nandakumar\, an Entrepreneur\, scuba diver\, passionate traveler\, underwater and wildlife photographer\, born and educated in Mysore\, is presently settled in Bangalore. His Company\, Nandana’ Idea Space\, is an offset and art print marketing firm\, well established for more than 15 years in Bengaluru\, employing 60+ people. He is also the Founder of Naturextreme India Private limited\, a one stop solution company for all sorts of passion and taste for outdoors; from scuba diving courses to diving trips\, wildlife safaris to family and corporate tours\, nature tours to off road trips\, with camera bags and apparels.  As a passionate scuba diver and wildlife enthusiast\, Nandakumar has visited 34 countries around South East Asia\, Africa and South America\, covering more than 100 destinations\, done 850+ DIVES along with 1500+ SAFARI DAYS. Corona and related setbacks had put a temporary break to his travel and adventures for almost 4 years but he has not given up on his passions. Children and Newborns.  \n \nSathya Vagale\, a Fashion Photographer who owns a studio to capture glamour will take us thru a brief introduction to the realm of Fashion Photography\, predominantly done indoors in his studio. He will dwell upon the various aspects such as selection of the models\, interaction between model and makeup artists\, clients and stylist/designer.  Discussing the theme of the shoot\, coordination of costumes and makeup. Instructions to model on posing/emotiong are other important aspects of fashion photography. \n On the technical side\, using different lighting techniques\, composing the shot\, use of videography/creation of reels\, post processing and generative fill/AI are as important. \nAbout the presenter: Sathya Vagale\n \nSathya Vagale is a Bengaluru based Fashion and Product photographer. He was born in 1950 and holds a Postgraduate Degree from the University of Delhi and is an  Architect and City Planner by profession. His interest in photography started during his college years. He has been photographing for the past 55 years\, but it is only around the last 14 years that he has been able to pursue his passion as a full time Actor as well as Fashion and Wildlife photographer. It is a versatile multi-role software that covers several aspects of digital photography and is not limited to just post-processing. Plus it has a very powerful batch processing capability thus saving enormous time and effort for volume users.  \n \n However\, to use Lightroom one has to overcome a “catch” as it is based on a different type of architecture compared to most other image processing and even any general purpose software. This can make the use of Lightroom a bit tricky to start but once the concept is understood\, it will be smooth sailing thereafter with many benefits. \nOne more important point and the reason why Lightroom is not popular with some. Proper organization of the images is a must and without this\, usage of Lightroom will get messy very soon leading to frustration. In other words\, certain discipline has to be adhered to in the organization of your image storage\, to reap the benefits of Lightroom. \n The purpose of the talk is to deal with these issues and to bring clarity to the topics mentioned. \nAbout the Speaker:\nMr Ashok Kandimalla\nMr Ashok Kandimalla has been in the field of photography for more than three decades and has extensive experience in both film and digital photography. As an electronics and computer engineer (he holds a degree in electronics from IIT Madras)\, he has a unique and deep insight into digital photographic technology. \nAshok has a passion for sharing his knowledge through teaching and writing. Starting from 2009\, Ashok has been authoring a series of articles under the title ‘Basics of Photography’ in the magazine – Smart Photography.  Many of his articles have also been published in the ‘Viewfinder’ which is the official journal of FIP.  He was also a co-editor for the FIP’s Sapphire Jubilee Viewfinder book. So far\, he has published more than 200 articles plus equipment reviews in various leading Indian photography magazines. \nAshok has also conducted more than 100 workshops and photography courses for several corporate customers (Honeywell\, Bank of America\, Infosys\, etc.) and UNESCO. Currently\, he conducts workshops and classes regularly at Mindscreen Film Institute (MFI)\, Chennai. He was the President of Telangana Photographic Society in 2018. Mr James Kerwin who has been visiting Georgia since Dec 2017 and also lived there through the pandemic will showcase his portfolio from Georgia\, and the capital Tbilisi. \nJames will showcase architectural images\, landscapes and hidden gems with stories and photo tips throughout \nSpeaker:\nMr James Kerwin \nBorn in 1982 into a British family\, James lived in Norwich\, England until January of 2019. He has committed the last ten years to documenting the beauty of forsaken\, dilapidated\, or forgotten architectural wonders; in addition\, he has started exploring ruins\, heritage spaces\, and deserted areas. He started taking architectural photos in late 2013\, and it took him into hidden corners and abandoned areas of cities\, all over the world.  \n‘Decadence\,’ his first series\, began his investigation into deserted buildings. He spent almost ten years building up a comprehensive portfolio that features some of the world’s most fascinating places. His approach to photography focuses on capturing clear lines and vibrant color palettes in the moment\, then enhancing the photos with modern post-processing methods.  \nNumerous international competitions have recognised his work and in 2017 it won both the ND Awards and the Chromatic Colour Awards in the Architecture category. He was placed second in the International Photography of the Year competition’s Architecture category in March 2018. In the exterior category\, his 2019 photo ‘Circle of Trust\,’ taken in Beirut\, Lebanon\, was shortlisted for the 2021 Architectural Photographer of the Year award.  \nHe debuted “Fabrica – A Journey Into Decay” and “Abandoned Lebanon” – published by Jonglez\, in the autumn of 2021. He has been a Pro Partner for Benro tripods since 2017 and was an ambassador for Tenba Camera Bags for some time. He held an affiliation with 5.11 Tactical\, who helped him out with luggage and clothing during 2019.  \nPhotography and travel go hand in hand. He had traveled throughout Europe extensively before he started taking pictures. He first became interested in photography in 2009\, ten months into his time in Melbourne\, Australia. He was set to head to the bright lights of Hong Kong when he went to a small camera store and bought a Panasonic Lumix LX3. Three weeks later\, he was shooting the light trail images that he had shot only a few days earlier\, standing in the dark on a bridge in Hong Kong.  \nHis journeys in pursuit of new experiences have been countless since he first picked up a camera. As a result\, in 2019 he decided to base himself permanently outside of the UK and started a photography adventure tour company\, first in Tbilisi\, Georgia. But as he developed it\, his artistic journey went on\, and he moved to Istanbul\, Türkiye – at the beginning of 2022.  \nHis portfolio shows that travel is a key component of his photographic storytelling. His curiosity about various cuisines\, textures\, colors\, and cultures inspires him to travel to new places. Currently\, he is working as a Consultant in an IT company.\n\nWhile he is an attentive listener by nature\, he has always been actively involved in sports\, especially cricket\, representing the KSCA division 5 and 4 through a private cricket club during his college days.\n\nHowever\, his true passion for photography blossomed when he started traveling and trekking in the Himalayas. It was during one of these trips that a friend introduced him to the world of DSLR photography\, particularly landscapes and wildlife photography. This introduction turned out to be an eye-opening experience and the best thing that happened to him.  \n\nAround 2009/2010\, he came across an article in the Deccan Herald newspaper about YPS (Youth Photographic Society). Intrigued\, he decided to visit YPS\, which is located at the State Youth Center\, and became a member. This marked the transition from photography as a mere hobby to a more dedicated and responsible passion. \n\nTo further enhance his skills\, he enrolled himself in a 5-day workshop led by the renowned photographer\, Mr Anand Sharan. During this workshop\, he was introduced to the world of portrait photography. Initially\, he focused on capturing animals\, but his interest gradually shifted towards photographing people. This allowed him to break out of his introverted shell as he had to actively engage and connect with people to capture their portraits. \n\nDespite this shift towards portrait photography\, he still find solace in the tranquility of forests. For him\, it is not always about photographing mammals and birds\, but rather about enjoying the raw beauty of nature\, immersing himself in its serenity\, and breathing in the fresh air. \n\nFinding a balance between his career and passion\, he has set up a small home studio for product photography. He dedicate a significant amount of time to exploring different lighting setups and techniques for capturing compelling product images. Lately\, he has also been working on retouching\, editing\, and blending techniques\, using overlays and textures to further refine his photography skills. After medical school in Mysore he went to England and then settled in the USA. He is actively practising Intensive care Medicine. Nature and landscape photography are his passion but he also does other genres  for fun. It is a well defined process to give photographers complete control of the process\, end to end\, right from capturing an image to the final print. \nIn this talk\, Mr Ashok Kandimalla will explain the usage of the Zone System in simple terms and discuss its relevance in the digital age. \n \nAbout the Speaker: \nMr Ashok Kandimalla\nMr Ashok Kandimalla has been in the field of photography for more than three decades and has extensive experience in both film and digital photography. As an electronics and computer engineer (he holds a degree in electronics from IIT Madras)\, he has a unique and deep insight into digital photographic technology. \nAshok has a passion for sharing his knowledge through teaching and writing. Starting from 2009\, Ashok has been authoring a series of articles under the title ‘Basics of Photography’ in the magazine – Smart Photography.  Many of his articles have also been published in the ‘Viewfinder’ which is the official journal of FIP.  He was also a co-editor for the FIP’s Sapphire Jubilee Viewfinder book. So far\, he has published more than 200 articles plus equipment reviews in various leading Indian photography magazines. \nAshok has also conducted more than 100 workshops and photography courses for several corporate customers (Honeywell\, Bank of America\, Infosys\, etc.) and UNESCO. Currently\, he conducts workshops and classes regularly at Mindscreen Film Institute (MFI)\, Chennai. He was the President of Telangana Photographic Society in 2018. In this presentation\, focus stacking is explored in-depth\, along with various camera setups\, equipment\, and software workflows. The session includes live demonstrations with different subjects to provide hands-on learning for participants. \n \nAbout the Presenter: Mr Raghuram Annadana \n \nRaghuram Annadana’s passion  for macro and close-up photography spans many years. His expertise lies in crafting immersive and intimate visual narratives of tiny life forms in-situ\, using high-magnification photography techniques. Many of these unseen creatures are now threatened by habitat loss and climate change. His photography increases awareness and appreciation of their beauty – their myriad forms\, textures\, and colors – and helps conservation. The day traces its origins to 1837 when the first-ever photographic process\, the ‘Daguerreotype’ was developed by the Frenchmen Louis Daguerre and Joseph Nicephore Niepce. \nYPS has been celebrating this day with various types of events.  This year\, on 18\, 19 and 20 August\, we bring for you: \n\n18\,19\,20 Aug\, 11 am-6 pm – Exhibition of Prints: ‘FRAMES 2023 – Visual Voyages’\n\n\n18 Aug\, 3 pm – Presentation on wildlife and birding: Exotic Ecuador by Ananthamurthy\n\n\n19 Aug\, 2 pm – Demonstration on Lighting by H Satish\n\n\n20 Aug\, 9.30 am – Practical Portrait Session\n\n\n\n\n\nFRAMES 2023 – Visual Voyages\n \nThere can be no celebration without member participation. He started photography in the year 2011 under the guidance of Sri. Suresh Basavaraju. \nHe has done birding not only in Karnataka but has visited Tamil Nadu\, Kerala\, Goa\, Maharashtra\, Gujarat\, Rajasthan\, Jammu and Kashmir\, Himachal Pradesh\, Sikkim\, Uttarakhand\, West Bengal\, Uttar Pradesh\, Assam and Orissa.  \nHe has also visited Sri Lanka\, Bhutan\, Kenya\, Botswana\, Zambia\, Costa Rica\, Ecuador\, Peru\, Cambodia\, Vietnam and USA for wildlife photography. \nSo far he has photographed over one thousand  species of birds of the Indian Sub continent and about seven hundred species around the world. \nWildlife has always fascinated him. It all started when he was just 8-years old. His father had taken him to watch the movie\, Hatari\, a film completely based in Africa. Since then\, it had been his dream – to visit Africa. Its wildlife that got him first\, photography happened much later. \nOnly after a wildlife trip with his friend\, a photographer\, was he intrigued by the art of photography. Though he was using a basic DSLR back then\, a few moments in the forest with a camera is all it took to get him hooked for life.  An avid birder today\, he travels looking for specific species of birds across India and the world.  He has traveled extensively across the country except Northeast.  A lot of his work has been published in NGC Traveller\, and BNHS book of Birds of Maharashtra. Five bird images captured by  him have been printed as greeting cards by BNHS for the year 2015.  He has also won many National and International awards for wildlife photography.  \nNote: The session is FREE and Open to all. \n\n19 August @ 2 pm\nAll about Lighting\nPresentation and talk by H Satish\nLighting is the most essential aspect of photography. \nWithout light\, there’s no photography.\nHow we shape light is what makes the image stand out. It may seem straight forward but while making the shot there are various aspects one needs to look at. Like\, the intensity of light\, direction of light\, distance of light from the subject and quality of light.\nAlong with this\, there will be a live demonstration of the setting up of different types the lighting for making Portraitures. \nLet us understand to master the lighting from the master himself! \nNote: The session is FREE and Open to all. \nAbout the Presenter:\nH Satish\nD.cine\, MFIAP\, MICS\, ARPS\, PPSA\, cMoL\, GPA.PESGSPC \n\n\n\nHe is the first Indian to be honoured with EFIAP and MFIAP in Nature colour prints and the youngest Indian to get MFIAP. His pictures have graced all the guidebooks published by ‘Outlook Traveller’ and ‘Today- Travel Plus’ magazines.  He has contributed calendar spreads to WWF\, BEML\, BHEL\, MICO\, MCF and Canara Bank. Andhra Pradesh Photography Academy has published a book on his wildlife photographic journey. Till date\, he has won 978 national and international awards.
