SUMMARY:Exotic Ecuador - Through a Doctor's Lens
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet Live | June 14\, Sun | 5:30 PM | YPS Facebook page\nWith over 1500 species of birds\, Ecuador offers more bird diversity in less space than any other country in the world.\nOur next YPS meet is by Dr. Pradeep Rao who will share his experiences of travel to Ecuador & Galapagos. The presentation will take you through it’s habitat & bird life. \nAll birders are aware that Bird Diversity varies according to the Latitude. Therefore Arctic region has less resident birds\, temperate region has more and tropical belt has the most. \n \nHalfway between US and the equator is  tiny Costa Rica\, which has over 850 species — more species than in the entire United States. Ecuador\, sitting right on the equator\, is the culmination of this trend. \nWith over 1500 species of birds\, Ecuador offers more bird diversity in less space than any other country in the world. \nGeographic good fortune has blessed Ecuador with a wide variety of faunal zones\, including some of the richest on this planet\, each with its characteristic birds. Ecuador’s Amazonian faunal zone alone has more than 600 species of birds\, and several other Ecuadorian zones are nearly as rich. \nEcuador’s small size (equal to the U.S. state of Colorado) and well-developed transportation system means that this diversity can be easily accessed and experienced even by those with limited time and money. \nGalapagos Islands\, 1000 kms off the Ecuadorian West Coast has always been interesting for its very peculiar flora and fauna\, apart from being well known to its association with Charles Darwin. Darwin’s visit to the Galapagos Islands\, had a resounding impact on the formation of his THEORY OF NATURAL SELECTION. \nThis Sunday\, let’s fly high and see the exotic birds thru a doctor’s lens! \nTo join the session\n\nFollow YPS Facebook page by clicking here\,  so that you get notified when the live session starts.\nClick on https://facebook.com/ypsbengaluru/live @ 5.30pm on Sunday 14 June\, 2020.\n\nAbout the Speaker\nDr. Pradeep Rao\, Consultant Pathologist\, has been in Laboratory Medicine for over 30 years. His specialization is in Genetics and Pre Natal Diagnosis\, ie.\, Investigating to detect various diseases when the baby is inside the womb – during pregnancy. \n\n\n\nHe got back to photography since 2016\, after giving it a 30 year break\, as he got caught in the regular “Rat Race” called “ Life”. He was an active member of YPS around 1984 – times of Gul Rajani\, E Hanumantha Rao\, Dr Hari Narayan\, N Gopinath\, Allama Prabhu Sr…etc. \nHis interest is mainly Bird Photography with a little bit of Wildlife thrown in. He is an avid traveller\, having visited over 40 countries for tourism and bird photography.\nDr Rao says he’s sharing his experiences & photographs with the hope of getting comments of all experts and looks forward to some new learnings \n-YPS Executive Committee

SUMMARY:Specialty of Black & White Photography
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet | Saturday 11\, Jan | 6:30 PM | YPS Hall\nAn Appreciation of the works of Dr. D V Rao\, Past President of FIP\, presented by Shri. K S Rajaram\nIt’s poetry captured in pictures. Tantalizingly beautiful\, stunning and story telling\, their simplicity and human approach are strikingly different from that of the others. We are talking about the black and white blow-ups of Dr. D V Rao\, which were appearing in leading newspapers and magazines either as exclusive masterpieces or as part of his photo features on a varied travel series. \nDr.  D V Rao was honoured in the Karnataka Rajyotsava Award in 1982 and was also presented with the Lalithakala Academy and Sahithya Academy Awards in 1997. At the age of 88\, on the first of January 2000 he founded the Sagara Photographic Society and led as its president till his last day in 2004. \nThose were the days during 1940s & 1950s that there were only a handful of experts who had practiced black & white photography as an art right from preparing their raw materials upto printing themselves. They had developed and used many formulae and styles of their own. The Federation of Indian Photography\, the National body founded during that time by Dr. G Thomas was the only National level Organization\, which sponsored and encouraged young photographers and photography Clubs. \nAmong many eminent personalities\, Dr D V Rao was one of the few dedicated photographers who stood by Dr. G Thomas and also occupied apex status of President of the Federation for quite sometime. Dr. Rao served FIP as Vice President and also Secretary in different divisions and always maintained his discipline and consistent principle for strengthening FIP. He also brought recognition internationally for Indian Photography. He encouraged many upcoming photographers with his sincere guidance and also had been the cause of starting quite a few photographic associations.

Ramesh Bhat has carved a special place for himself in the hearts of the Kannada filmgoer\, playing various character roles over the last 42 years with admirable aplomb. \nHe started his career in 1974 with the movie ‘Abachurina Post Office’ by N. Lakshminarayan which was based on a story by Poornachandra Tejasvi. He has acted in over 500 movies and has worked with theatre groups like Spandana\, Nataranga\, and Benaka. This will be followed by a presentation of Wildlife images by none other than Shri. Diinesh Kumble! \nDate:  Sunday 06 October\, 2019\nTime: 5pm to 8.30 pm\nVenue: YPS Hall \nSchedule:\n5 to 6:20 pm  – Nuances of photography by Shri Sameer Ashraf from Sony\n6:20 to 6.30 pm – High Tea\n6.30 to 8.30pm – Presentation by Shri Diinesh Kumble. \nDo join in to celebrate the Wildlife Week!  \nAbout the Speakers\nShri. Diinesh Kumble \n \n4 pictorial coffee table books – 3 of which for the Govt. of Gujarat\, 2 pictorial pocket books\, and a number of award winning images epitomizes Diinesh Kumble.\n\nA Chemical Engineer\, Diinesh turned to entrepreneurship in 1995 venturing into sports software technology\, books & games publishing\, photography and wildlife conservation. All these interests apart\, he finds immense solitude and solace in wildlife photography.\n\nHis passion to share knowledge gained over years of on-field professional experience in photography has been imbibed by many aspiring enthusiasts who have gone on to become leading cinematographers\, and film makers. His speaking engagements at various corporate entities viz. HP\, Microsoft\, Bosch etc.\, and at TEDx\, PEPx\, DCP Expeditions & NiF events have evoked a sense of awe.\n\nDiinesh is the first wildlife photographer on SONY India’s “Elite Artisan” panel. He is also associated with HP large format printers\, Manfrotto & GITZO brands of photographic accessories.\nWildlife Week\nIn the year 1952 with a view to preserve the fauna of India\, particularly to take urgent steps to prevent extinction of any species\, the Government of India established an Indian Board of Wild Life (IBWL).  The Board has since been doing pioneering work to arouse public consciousness in favour of wildlife preservation. \nFrom time immemorial\, our wildlife has been closely associated with our legendary beliefs and our folklores\, with our epics and our history. Our lives would be very much poorer without these varied forms that build up the balance of nature. Wildlife preservation in fact implies active and planned wildlife management under which all forms of life would progress side by side with human progress\, each in its own sphere of influence and utility and without any detriment to human interests. In fact\, it is with this end in view that wildlife sanctuaries and national parks have been established and developed in suitable localities all over the country. \nIn order to arouse a general awakening in the common man in favour of protection of wildlife\, the Indian Board of Wild Life (IBWL) decided to observe the Wildlife Week and since then from October 2 – 8 every year organize different activities related to wildlife conservation to commemorate this week. \nEvery year around this time (October 2 to 8) governments\, environmentalists\, activists\, educators organize different activities to accelerate the awareness of wildlife conservation among people. India\, being a mega-storehouse of various species\, is also able to manage several conferences\, awareness programmes\, and public meetings among the nature lovers. Schools and educational institutions organize events such as wildlife related movie screening\, painting competition/essay writing/ debate competition for young children with wild life as the theme. \nBangalore has the largest community of Wildlife Photographers. To celebrate wildlife and its conservation\, YPS will be celebrating Wildlife Week with a function on 6 October 2018. \nYPS Executive Committee

Some of them find space on our walls and many more get exhibited around the world to earn us titles. Pictures can do a lot more than that if they find their way to other’s walls! ” \nThe Vismaya team will share – \n🔸How these exhibitions shaped  their photography and outlook on pictures they clicked. \n🔸Their experiments with different techniques used to make the images reach the donors. \n🔸Their experience working with multiple social organisations \n🔸Their learnings from motivating general public to donate. \n🔸How the team learns photography as a group. \n🔸The team will also display their pictures that have contributed to the success of their exhibitions. \nAbout the Speakers\nAmar Bhaskar\nA management executive by profession\, Amar’s passion for photography has driven him to capture precious moments in time. SUMMARY:Master Your Lenses
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet | Sept 28\, Sat | 6:30 PM | YPS Hall\nEvery photographer has a bag-full of lenses that stay with them even when the bodies change. Some of them are favourites and stay on the body most of the time while others are rarely used. And all of us also have a longer wishlist of lenses that we want in the bag. This session will focus on how to understand the strengths and weakness of your lenses and how to use them to make the type of pictures one wants. A better understanding of the lens will also help the Photographer to make technically superior pictures. Finally\, the session will help you understand how to build your portfolio of lenses suitable for the pictures you make. \nAbout the Speaker\nMurali Santhanam\nMurali Santhanam is a retired Information Technology professional. His photographic journey over the last decade and half has been shaped by friends from YPS and from group Vismaya\, a small group doing “Photography for Cause”. His interest in photography started after reading Kodak Guide for Photography so much that the very first investment that he made after getting employed\, was to buy a camera. He was drawn to photography by the science behind the photography and this interest has continued to help him develop his own  techniques for producing technically better pictures. Association with YPS and Vismaya shaped his understanding of elements of a picture and composition of elements. The one learning from Mr. Anand Sharan\, Bangalore School of Arts and Photography\, that underlies all his pictures is “Background makes a picture”. Murali learns by experimenting and shares his knowledge readily. \nYPS had also given an opportunity over the last few years to serve the members. He applied his IT knowledge to create the YPS Portal and Salon submission and judging software. He was a co-creator of Creative Photo Artist for collective learning through honest discussions.\n\nHere are some of the images by Murali Santhanam. \n \n \n \n \n \n \nPalace and Crescent\nTrishul mountain lit during Sunset showing the three spikes\n  \n-YPS Executive Committee

M N Murthy known as FotoMurthy in the photographers’ fraternity. His presentation is on  Expressive and Emotive portraits. He will share knowledge on how to create picture which can depict life. \nAbout the Speaker\nFotoMurthy\nSri. M N Murthy belongs to Bengaluru and started doing graphic designing for advertising purposes and was identified for his good visuals\, which made him try his hand at photography.  He started doing portraiture in 1997 and concentrated on child portraiture\, fashion and dancers from 2004.  He got identified with his studio ‘Fotogenic’ and came to be fondly known as ‘FotoMurthy’. \nHe was chosen to be ‘The official baby photographer of The Cradle hospital’ in Bangalore and was pioneer of professional ‘infant photography’ in hospitals.  He has captured lovely images of newborn babies for over 6000 parents in the said hospital alone.  However\, owing to his commitments to dance photography and travel for weddings/fine art photography\, he discontinued doing infant photography. \nApart from being the official portrait photographer for Natyanjali School of Dance\, Drishti School of Dance\, Kanagal School of Dance\, NatyaSampada;  he collaborates with 12-15 major dance schools in Bangalore\, for their portrait and portfolio requirements. \nHe frequently collaborates with legendary dance make-up artistes like Kanakaraj and Vijayakumar who do 75% of the Bharatanatyam\, Kuchipudi and Kathak makeups in Bangalore. \nHe proudly admits that he is a die-heard black and white aficionado\, and that about 20-30% of images in every portfolio that he creates\, will contain black and white pictures.
