SUMMARY:3D Photography - Challenges and Techniques
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet | January 19\, Sat | 6:30 PM | State Youth Centre\nWe see the world with two eyes and understand the depth of what is in front of us. And as most of our cameras fail in capturing the depth of a scene\, it is all flat. It was in 1840s when the world heard about the 3D Photography\, also known as Stereoscopic Photography\, for the first time ever. \nAt the next YPS Slideshow meet let us understand the art of capturing and displaying three dimensional images from a renowned 3D Photographer Mr. Nanda Kumar! \n \nThe world was already over whelmed when the word “Photography” was introduced for the first time in history\, as we could capture the light in reality. And when they heard 3D Photography\, it was a WOW moment! \nThe challenges involved in 3D Photography and the technology required in executing the same will be explained by Mr. nanda Kumar\, combined with his own experience and display of images created by him. \nAbout Mr. Nanda Kumar \n \nMr. Nanda Kumar son of Shri.Subba Rao and Smt.Kamalamma\, is a senior photographer in media industry from the cultural city of Mysore.  He had interest in photography from his high school days itself and got inspired by the great Puttanna Kanagal Kannada film director for his black and white photography techniques. He could not continue his formal education after his SSLC  as he lost his parents.  He was on his own at very young age itself.  He concentrated on full time photography and participated on national level Hoysala photography award and won first place in both colour and black & white category.   He served many years as photo journalist for state and local newspapers. He worked for Prajavani and Deccan Herald as official photographer for 10 years from Hassan.  He held a Photo Exhibition of his pictures on babies\, Wildlife\, Birds\, Photo journalism for the first time in Hassan and it was inaugurated by Kannada film director Nagathihalli Chandrashekar. He was greatly inspired by the film Chota Chetan 3D movie and started research on the 3D technics and met technicians of the movie and received guidance.   He took it as a challenge\, after 7 years of research and developement with so many cameras and technics he invented his own 3D Camera setup.  He later did research for 3D glass through out India and after he made his own set up of 3D camera and 3D glasses he started experimenting at the events like birthdays\, marriages and other events and tasted success. \nIn the year 2012 he launched his own website with the hands of great cine actor and senior photographer Shri. Shivram.  Hindustani/Carnatic singer Smt. Sangeetha Katti and Padmashree Kadri Gopalnath\, Saxophone artist inaugurated photo exhibition in Bangalore Press Club. \nThen he faced real challenge of making people understand his website because they didn’t have 3D glasses. He got an idea of experimenting  with his 3D Technique on historical places and monuments.  He got the opportunity to capture Shravanabelagola Mahamastakabhisheka 2018 in 3D with the support of Swamiji and the Deputy Commissioner of Hassan District.  After one and half month effort he was successfull and his 100 magnificient pictures got exhibited in the permanently gallery.  During April 2018 his  3D photo exhibition was held titled “Jaina kashi in 3D” in Bangalore Metro Rangoli gallery for three days and was inaugurated by Praveen Godkhindi with grand success. \nHe has number of followers and he shares his knowledge and talent with them through social media like Facebook etc.  He has many photographers interested in 3D worldwide following him on his Facebook page 3D studio. \nLet us meet this Saturday at YPS to experience Stereoscopic Photography! \nYPS Executive Commiitee

Through his ‘Tabletop’ series\, Vinod Sunder demonstrates how!   After always being on the high seas\, sailing to all parts of the world he now enjoys ‘time at home’. \nVinod says\, “Still life photography involves using everyday objects within the house and all it needs is some good arrangements to create good composition.  Fruits\, vegetables\, earthenware\, wooden kitchen items can contribute towards creating impressive still lifes.” \nVinod Sunder took up photography more seriously as a hobby in 2012. He was not totally new to a camera and had dabbled with a Minolta SLR and Sony point-and-shoot digital cameras but more for casual photography. He had served in the Merchant Navy for 33 years and after his retirement in 2010 he decided that he needed a hobby or two to keep him occupied since he was not keen on a day job. \nAfter seeing a relative with a Nikon\, he took the plunge and became a ‘Nikonian’ too. Then began the decision of what genre to settle for as a main interest. Having pored over hundreds of photographs in 1x.com\, 500px.com and Flickr\, still life and tabletop photography caught his eye and he decided it was the genre he would give preference to\, but with options for other genres open as well. \nHe is a self-taught photographer when it comes to still life & tabletop photography as nobody in Bangalore was conducting workshops in this genre. Google helped him a lot in finding topics and tutorials and so did YouTube videos. This is where he discovered what ‘dark field’ and ‘bright field’ lighting was all about and it played a major role when photographing glassware. Still life photography involves using everyday objects within the house and all it needs is some good arrangements to create good composition. Fruits\, vegetables\, earthenware\, wooden kitchen items can contribute towards creating impressive still lifes. Given the fact that the photography was restricted to indoors\, space constraints in an apartment was a bit disadvantageous but achievable after moving furniture to create the space needed. Just a DSLR was not sufficient and his ‘arsenal’ saw the entry of soft boxes\, flashes\, wireless triggers\, backdrops\, light stands\, studio lights\, gels\, reflectors\, tripods\, monopods and Eneloop batteries. \nThe best publicity he achieved was when a few of his photographs were featured in the March 2016 issue of ‘Smart Photography’. He has uploaded many of his pictures in 500px and most of them have gained the ‘popular’ status. \nHis other hobby is woodworking and he even fabricated a tall cabinet to store all his indoor photography gear. When indoor photography ‘takes a back seat’ he pursues woodworking which has led him to acquire a fair number of power tools. He mentions that living in an apartment has forced him into using a larger balcony as his workshop. \nHe adds that even though tabletop photography can be a bit challenging due to setting up of equipment\, the end result is very satisfying. One does not need a high-end camera or lenses and even entry level gear can produce good results. He has restricted himself to a Nikon D7000 and some mid-range lenses and they have been serving him well. Vinod says he will continue with his passion for still lifes for a long period but is also keen to experiment with landscapes\, slow shutter speed and time lapse photography. \nSun\, Jan 6\, 11:00 AM – Award  Ceremony\nThe winners of the YPS 36th All India Digital Salon 2018 will be recognised. We will also recognize and thank Sponsors and Supporters who have contributed to the success of the Salon. The event starts with refreshments at 10:15 AM and the award ceremony will start at 11:00 AM. \nYPS Executive Committee extends warm invitation to all photo and art lovers to join us during the Award Ceremony of YPS 36th All India Digital Salon 2018 on Sunday\, January 6th\, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Venkatappa Art Gallery. \n  \nClick here to view the success report.

This journey took him to most sanctuaries in India and most family outings turned out to be in the Jungles. \nHe’s been part of YPS for almost a decade and through YPS\, has had the honour of his image being selected for representing India in the FIAP Nature Biennial World cup\, in which team India won the Gold medal. \nApart from wildlife\, he takes pictures of family and kids and occasional travel images. He is currently exploring more genres in photography. \nHe will be mainly presenting pictures from his wildlife journey along with a few travel images. \n  \nAbout Sri. Harish N N \nHarish\, younger brother of Yogish is also a Life Member of YPS. He is an advocate by profession. \nHis photographic journey is similar to Yogish\, starting with the FM10 in late 90s and moving on to his first DSLR in 2007 with the purchase of a Canon 40D. \nHe was introduced to nature in an early life by their father who would take them to wildlife and bird sanctuaries. In 2007\, his father took the entire family to Kenya\, which started a more serious wildlife journey. This interest in wildlife photography became a passion after joining India Nature Watch – a website portal for Indian nature. INW was his primary source of inspiration and learning. Birding and bird photography became his passion. \nHe won the Nikon-Better Photography Wildlife Photographer Award -2009 in the wildlife category and subsequently\, was awarded the Nikon-Better Photography Photographer of the Year Award -2009.  Singapore Tourism Board\, a co-sponsor of the event invited him to Singapore to click pictures which they used for their promotional advertisements. \nHe has been a member of YPS for almost a decade and through YPS he has had the honour of being a member of the Indian Team that won the Bronze Medal (Projected Images Section) in the 17th FIAP Nature Biennial World Cup – 2014. \nApart from photography\, his hobbies include singing and playing musical instruments. The pictures he would present would include mainly of birds apart from a few wildlife and other images.  As the brothers have travelled together for many wildlife tours\, they would try to avoid repetition of similar images though there may be images taken in similar situations. \n  \n-YPS Executive Committee

Photography is an art where we not just shoot but we create an image! \nWe photographers pick our cameras to capture what is in front of us\, sometimes with little manipulations so as to avoid a straightforward photograph as a means of  “creating “ an image rather than simply recording it! SUMMARY:TRAVEL PORTRAIT PHOTOGRAPHY - A Slideshow by Mr. Russell Dmello
DESCRIPTION:YPS Meet | November 17\, Sat | 6:30 PM | State Youth Centre\nWe all love to travel and we all love to take portraits. How about taking portraits while you travel? Photographing people you don’t know can be a very challenging and a different experience all together. \nThe next YPS meet is a slideshow by Russell Dmello on “Travel Portrait Photography”. \n \nMr. Russell Dmello \nRussell Dmello is a wedding and travel portrait photographer by profession. Earlier based in Dubai\, now in Bengaluru to pursue his passion towards photography. Russell is the co-founder of Photowalk Bengaluru\, one of the popular photography clubs in Bengaluru with a member base of over 4000 members. \nRussell says –\n“I loves travel portraits. Not only do they test your photography skills but also challenge you to interact with people in unfamiliar environments. The end result directly reflects your subject’s personality along with your ability to make them feel at ease\, read the light\, select optimal settings\, and compose a great shot.\n\nAs a photographer\, it’s up to you to develop your own code of ethics. The initial approach can often be the hardest part; taking the shot is comparatively easy. \nAim for a consensual\, mutually enjoyable exchange from which you can both walk away with a happy story to tell. Be open\, smile\, and pay people compliments. If it’s a firm no\, you can smile warmly\, tell them it’s absolutely fine\, and ask them if they would like to see photos you’ve taken of the local area. This way\, you can both still walk away having had a pleasant experience\, and sometimes\, they even change their mind. \nYour challenge now is to make your subject feel at ease. The best portraits come when people are relaxed and open to you. Most crucially\, don’t rush the photo\, say goodbye\, and walk away. Show genuine interest in their lives. Ask questions if you can speak a mutual language. If not\, remember that much of your intentions and warmth can be communicated through body language\, facial expressions\, and gestures.” \n\n  \nLet’s meet this Saturday at YPS to know more about the Travel Portrait Photography by Russell Dmello! \nYPS Executive Committee \n

Youth Photographic Society plans to celebrate the Wildlife Week as follows: \n\nA  Wildlife Photography Contest for Photographers from Karnataka was organized under 3 sections – Wildlife\, Birds & Macro. The winners of each section\, Wildlife\, Birds & Macro\, will be awarded on October 5th\, 6th and 7th respectively.\nA Slideshow & Talks by Top Photographers on each day from October 5th to October 7th combined with Award Function.\nParticipation by special guests connected with Wildlife Photography on all 3 days.\n\nAbout the Speakers\n  \n Hari Somashekar takes you on a thrilling journey through the diverse landscapes of the Indian sub-continent\, behind the lens. A conservationist at heart\, Hari’s story is truly inspiring. His passion for wild life conservation is deep rooted and goes back to his days as a child. Having grown up around the forest areas of Karnataka\, Hari travelled through The Sandur Reserve Forest every day to make it to school as a child. Sightings of a plethora of wild species in these parts were not uncommon\, developing his passion at an early age. In spite of his deep rooted passion\, Hari spent several years of his career as a hotelier in the city of Bangalore. After 8 long years\, he was finally inspired\, realizing his true calling. From taking home a six figure salary to volunteering under his mentor Sanjay Gubbi\, the challenges Hari faced were manifold. It was here that he acquired the knowledge he needed to fulfil that childhood dream. During his tenure here\, he played an important role in advocating petitions such as the night closure of the national highways that pass through the forests of Bandipur\, the Gundia Hydro Electric Project\, and many more. In the two years he spent as a volunteer\, Hari made several visits to the Tiger Reserves in India studying them\, learning about conservation\, and working on out-reach and educational programs. On these visits\, he witnessed the beauty of India’s flora and fauna\, inspiring him to buy his first camera. In just over two years\, Hari moved on to become the Honorary Wild Life Warden for Bangalore\, Rural District\, giving him the opportunity to further pursue his love for wild life photography. By the year 2012\, Hari was offered a position to become the State Director for an international wild life NGO in Karnataka. Accepting this incredible offer\, he maintains his position at the NGO till date working on conservation projects and out-programs across the state. Hari’s free time is spent doing what he loves most. Photography. Travelling through the forests of India every chance he gets\, he has acquired an extra-ordinary portfolio\, covering a variety of species. From reptiles to birds\, Hari focuses on documenting species that are endangered\, brining about awareness of their existence and need for conservation. he uses his technical excellence in photography as a powerful medium to make a difference in wild life conservation in India. He is currently focusing on the magnificent Himalayan region in Northern India. \n  \n R Anantha Murthy has always been fascinated by the wildlife. It all started when he was just 8-years-old when his father took him to watch the movie\, Hatari\, a film completely based in Africa. Since then\, it has been his dream – to visit Africa. Its wildlife that got him first\, photography happened much later. \nOnly after a wildlife trip with his friend\, a photographer\,  he was  intrigued by the art of photography. Though he was using a basic DSLR back then\, a few moments in the forest with a camera is all it took to get him hooked for life. Though he still continues to work as an executive with an insurance company\, photography is more than just a passion for Anantha. \nAn avid birder today\, he travels looking for specific species of birds across the world. Places include Jammu and Kashmir\, Uttarakhand\, Rajasthan\, Gujarat\, Goa\, and Tamilnadu. He has been exploring and visiting forests in Karnataka (his home town) frequently. He has also visited Kenya: Lake Naivasha\, Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara. \nA lot of Murthy’s work has been published in NGC Traveller\, and BNHS book of Birds of Maharashtra. Five bird images captured by him have been printed as greeting cards by BNHS for the year 2015.  \nWildlife and wildplaces has always inspired Murthy. But besides it being a personal passion\, his objective of photographing birds\, especially rare species is mainly to document and maintain a proper record of its migration\, habitats and threats. He wants to contribute and support nature and wildlife conservation through his work. \n  \n Hayath Mohammed is a Technical Architect from IT Industry by profession and a nature enthusiast by passion. He grew up in the developing Bangalore and yet had access to some fabulous places rich in Flora and Fauna. Most of his summer holidays during childhood were spent chasing butterflies\, exploring various kinds of insects. The chase is still in progress. A keen interest in native fish of our land\, has helped document new species for describing. He is Interested in all genres of photography. Nature photography\, especially Macro has been his passion for many years. He enjoys showcasing beauty that the naked eyes cannot see! \n  \nWildlife Week\nIn the year 1952 with a view to preserve the fauna of India\, particularly to take urgent steps to prevent extinction of any species\, the Government of India established an Indian Board of Wild Life (IBWL).  The Board has since been doing pioneering work to arouse public consciousness in favour of wildlife preservation. \nFrom time immemorial\, our wildlife has been closely associated with our legendary beliefs and our folklores\, with our epics and our history. Our lives would be very much poorer without these varied forms that build up the balance of nature. Wildlife preservation in fact implies active and planned wildlife management under which all forms of life would progress side by side with human progress\, each in its own sphere of influence and utility and without any detriment to human interests. In fact\, it is with this end in view that wildlife sanctuaries and national parks have been established and developed in suitable localities all over the country. \nIn order to arouse a general awakening in the common man in favour of protection of wildlife\, the Indian Board of Wild Life (IBWL) decided to observe the Wildlife Week and since then from October 2 – 8 every year organize different activities related to wildlife conservation to commemorate this week. \nEvery year around this time (October 2 to 8) governments\, environmentalists\, activists\, educators organize different activities to accelerate the awareness of wildlife conservation among people.
