Julie! to the ‘Land of the Lamas – Ladakh 

Many of my friends visited Ladakh very often. Each one of them had different stories to tell. Some were photographers, some adventurous trekkers and some bike riders! Nevertheless, everybody intended to visit Ladakh in their lifetime. I used to wonder ‘what there is in store for a photo artist like me?  ‘mera number kab aayega’? And lo and behold,  I too got an opportunity to take some of my friends to a landscape photography workshop to ‘The Land of Lamas-LADAKH’.

Ladakh is a landscape lover’s paradise. January to December has different lighting for landscapes. I feel a trip to Ladakh is a religious trip for landscape photographers. The dream of every photo artist is to get these beautiful mountains in a different play of light. But hard work, dedication and determination to get the best of images will make you want to come back to the mountains again and again!

H Satish, presently the president of YPS has a long career in photography.  He says “I am a crazy traveller, and a prolific Art Photographer, who loves to mingle with like minded friends and am a great foodie. I have been in the field of photography for  40 years, and  a YPS member from 1981- thus completing 40 long years in this No.1 Photography Club of India. I am continuing my hobby and profession – Photography and love to share my images and little knowledge with those who seek.” 

The art of playing with light and presenting things ordinary in extraordinary perspective, the portrayal of nature in its finest detail, and to capture the various human emotions in all its glory is what distinguishes Satish. The urge to play is natural to any child, but to play with light and bring forth beautiful images at the age of 12 is sheer prodigy. It is this gift of nature that made him take up cinematography in his academic stint. It was during his graduation that he started to capture nature in all its glory, naturally  flowed appreciation and awards in both nature and pictorial sections of photography contests the world over.

He is the first Indian to be honoured with EFIAP and MFIAP in Nature colour prints; one of the highest honours in the photographic world.

He is the first Indian to get Two Masters from world bodies of photography in Nature photography.

He served as Secretary and Vice President in Youth Photographic Society, which is a premier photography club in India. He has been a member of the club for 40 years and currently he heads the club as its President.

The Karnataka Lalitkala Academy has given him the title – “State Artist“ award also!
