Pench National Park holds a distinction no other wilderness can claim. It is the living inspiration for Rudyard Kipling’s ‘The Jungle Book’. Baloo, Bagheera, Sher Khan—all found their first breath here. Straddling M.P. and Maharashtra, Pench spans 1,179 sq km of teak forests, rolling hills, and riverine valleys. The Pench River meanders through its heart, sustaining everything that calls this forest home. Tigers rule with quiet authority, Leopards haunt the shadows, Wild dogs (Dhole) hunt with lethal coordination, Sloth bears forage in mahua forests and over 285 bird species paint the canopy. To visit Pench is to step into a narrative that has captured imaginations for over a century.

Tour highlights:

We will work on anticipating animal movement rather than reacting to it and accordingly position ourselves to make impactful images of animals in their habitats as well as portraits. The January winter light can be soft and directional, ideal for capturing the golden winter grass and the dappled shade of the teak forests, hence an ideal time for landscape photographs too, especially at Turia.

Tour lead: Govind R V

Govind R V (IM-1129) brings over two decades of wildlife photography experience to the tour.

An ex-advertising professional, Govind found the calling of the wild during his first trip to Africa way back in the early 2000’s. Ever since, he has travelled to many wildlife reserves and photographed wildlife and landscapes. He not only understands the nuances and behaviour of wildlife but, more importantly, retains the enthusiasm and keenness of his initial years. Through this tour, he will guide the group in making it a memorable experience and aim to make you fill your memory cards with impactful images.
